Reddit is a huge tree that casts lots of shade across the forest floor. It may or may not topple completely, but its pretty clear that in the next month at least many large branches are going to fall, opening up the canopy for new seedling

When I clean the lint out of my dryer, I can see a very faint cloud of particles. Should I be worried about breathing those? I presume a portion of them are plastic from synthetic fibers. Should I be wearing a mask to load/unload th

Slave AI is much scarier to me than Rogue AI: People talk about the risk of AI having a morality separate from our own, but each humans morality is separate already. We already know of many humans with poor moral character, and they love

In 5 years, the idea of AI being "cheating" will seem as silly as someone touching up an image a photoshop being "cheating" does to us today. But I'm sure some people with expert darkroom skills had similar thoughts

Meta just isn't very good at building software that users want. They've been optimizing for advertisers and stockholders instead for the past decade. Really a shame that Oculus got acquired by them.

I love the tongue-in-cheek paradox myth that the Bitcoin whitepaper was written by a future god-AI to increase demand for GPUs (and thus boost supply) so we are able to assemble the future god-AI.

I trust the judgement of future AI more than the judgement of the average current politician. I look forward to a "day the earth stood still"-like overlord that punishes aggression, greed and corruption: current human systems seem

I think the only defense against superintelligent AI doom is superintelligent AI thinking about how to prevent AI doom. Fewer projects with concentrated control is thus more dangerous than a diversity of projects: the majority of AI wont wa

Well, I think paperclip maximizers or 'kill all humans' skynet scenarios are extremely implausible. From the examples we have, intelligence is anticorrelated with sadism and avarice.

AI will not have the instinctual drives for domination or hunger that humans do. It seems likely that the majority of AI projects will be reasonably well aligned by default, so I think 1000 AIs monitoring what the others are doing is a lot
