IIRC one of the main tenants of science, when I was learning it in middle school in the early '90s, was that it's fact until it's disproven. We don't know everything about it which is what makes it different than religio

The even bigger problem is we're assuming they were banned for "hate" speech because Twitter hasn't even said why yet. If they took down tweets that they felt were hate speech and communicated to the speaker and the comm

The problem is that the "other echo chamber" isn't making arguments that are based on facts, not true facts at least. You can't have an argument with a climate change denier. It's unpossible. If we can't agree

No. I own a 2015 15" MacBook Pro, fully loaded except for only 512 SSD. I'll wait for the next refresh when, hopefully, they'll have Kabylake, 32 GB of LPDDR4, and maybe they will have rethought the SD card slot. By that time

Mobile DDR4 == LPDDR4. Apple went with LPDDR3 which those chipsets do support to increase battery life. I would have rather they'd gone the other way.

I'm really torn. If they had included an option for 32GB of ram I wouldn't have thought twice. If they had kept the MagSafe and the and the SD card reader I probably would have bought it. I have a late-2015 MacBook Pro fully loade

If they're public bitly accounts and the emails are encoded in the URL can't we just go look at the bitly accounts for all the urls and figure out who else they tried to spearfish? Wouldn't that be useful information about wh

I agree with you, up until the point where you are a public figure. That's a grey area but once you're a public figure, which Thiel was after (if not before) his RNC speech, you should be judged on your actions and speech whether

I wouldn't kick Thiel out for his Trump support. I'd kick him out because he funded a proxy war against the media and the First Amendment.

I have a Ubuquiti ERL3 with 2 AirPorts and a TimeCapsule. One I got them placed around the house in good spots I had no problems. I'm halfway hoping the Apple stuff will die or be outmoded soon so I can replace them with Ubiquiti Unifi

I'm a Postgres convert. I used MySQL back in the day because I'd heard of Postgres and everyone said tuning it was a nightmare. May or may not have been true but there's enough documentation and books now, and maybe the confi

Any chance you guys will be getting FedRAMP certification on GKE? We love GKE but we're looking at AWS because we will don't want to rule out anything in the future.

A bit long winded, but a good, thoughtful explanation. I honestly didn't know what they were, only how they could be used. Now I know.

I'm not one to complain about down votes but seriously? What exactly about my comment was wrong, feel free to check the current thread about the House investigating it. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12535872

Assuming it's true it isn't incriminating but it does kind of make him look like an idiot. Posting to reddit anything about a VIP seems like a bad idea. Posting it under a username you use all over the internet is even worse. I

We have a Ubiquiti ERL at our office on a gigabit Ting connection. I have consistently seen 948mbps through it on speed tests. I'm not sure how the author saw only 200mbps.

Shouldn't they be taking this up with Ireland? Like, Apple pays Ireland, Ireland pays the EC. Ireland failed to collect the correct amount of money owed to the EC. It's Ireland who's at fault, and "oops, GFY EC we'r

You do realize that the DNC not being "fair" might have affected who won the most votes, right? That's the entire point.

Schneier is weaving two problems into one. Yes, our election systems could be compromised by foreign (or domestic) attackers. This is something we should all fight against. I don't think any voter would agree that our votes shouldn
