What if you wanted to select "top 100 most expensive products" or number of products between $0.01 and $10, $10.01 and $100, $100.01 and $1000? Sure you could do a full table scan on your products table on both queries but an ind

I haven't tried all of the favorites, just what is available with Jetbrains AI, but I can say that Gemini 2.5 is very good with Go. I guess that makes sense in a way.

Yeah same. As great as Datagrip is, I would have stuck with DBeaver if I didn't have the All Products Pack.

I used DBeaver (community edition) before Datagrip and I would have to give the nod to datagrip overall. I wouldn't have even tried it if I did not have the etbrains all product pack. DBeaver is great, don't get me wrong, but Da

I also really like the BTRFS file system which I didn't know about until installing Cachy. I like the idea of being able to go to a snapshot before I messed something up or a system update did. I figure if I ever need anything Windows

I have been playing with Cachy and Plasma in a VM and I am probably going to install that on my next PC build that I am planning. I am currently dual booting Ubuntu and Windows. I haven't logged into windows in over 6 months so I pro

I have been playing with it for a couple of hours. I have the All Product Pack which includes the AI Pro tier for free. You can hook up local models easily as well using Ollama or LM Studio. This seems better than both Continue.dev and C

I have never participated in any of these DNA sites but I have an aunt that pretty much put in our full family tree. Is there anything I can do to remove myself without making an account?

I did a lot of COBOL Y2K work in 1998-2000 and I have never once heard of any 1875 epoch related to COBOL until the last few days. We either modified code to use windowing functions or we just full converted to 4 digit years depending on s

I have been working on COBOL systems for quite a while now. Currently and for most of my career, we mostly always use DB2 compatible dates ("CCYY-MM-DD"). Pre-Y2k a lot of dates were created with: ACCEPT WS-DATE FROM DATE. The ab

You are updating both the data and the index when updating amount instead of just the data. That is twice the number of IO's.

Downside being that updates to amount are more costly and more storage required for the index. In your example though, it is probably a good optimization since how often do you change your up/down votes. I just wanted to point out tha

I never knew about the Dark Reader plugin. I just installed it and it makes HN, Slashdot and other sites much more readable for me. Thanks!

It is rarely used now days in my experience and I have never used a flat file that is over a decade old. Storage used to be expensive so this would ensure that old data got purged. Most flat files are useless after a month or less. Even

Jetbrains Goland doesn't make your code IDE specific at all. They don't do any magic, go build and everything else all works as expected from the command line. go fmt, go imports, revive, etc., can all be configured in the edito
