I used Silence as my primary SMS app for several years while I was on Android. Overall I had no complaints. Beware though, they seem to have been booted out of the Play Store at some point, so you might need to install through F-Droid.

There's the UV4L project that will let the Pi connect to Jitsi Meet. https://www.linux-projects.org/uv4l/tutorials/jitsi-meet/ Not sure if there's a way to hook it up to Zoom.

Conversely, is there any evidence in the other direction, ie that those who have recovered have NO protection? Remember the other famous WHO announcement at the beginning of this outbreak: “No evidence of human-to-human transmission”

True, but is this information actionable ? The point of flattening the curve is to keep the healthcare system from being overwhelmed, in order to avoid a catastrophic death rate. With a vaccine still 18-24 months away, we're all going

> Are we not greater than that as a civilization? Are we so great that we have totally conquered disease? That we can keep everyone alive forever? Certainly not. To assume otherwise shows an astonishing level of hubris.

What do you have in mind for usability in this context? Things like robustness against nonce reuse?

The contention is not that lockdowns let the virus run rampant. Rather that the slower spread is attributable to milder measures like closing schools and canceling concerts and sporting events.

Or grab a little short scale bass like an Ibanez Mikro Bass. Cheap and a dream to play. The scale length on the Mikro bass is only about 28-29 inches so coming from a “real” bass guitar it feels barely any bigger than a Stratocaster. I ca

Headsets are definitely in short supply. I bought a mid-range Jabra in March for about $150-160. The same model on Amazon is now over $200 and has increased by $10 since the last time I checked just one week ago.

Note that I was asking specifically about deterministic modes. Those include SIV mode [1] but not the more common CBC, CTR, etc. Any deterministic encryption relies on entropy of the plaintext for security [2]. This is not unique to E

Is ECB any worse than any other deterministic encryption? Deterministic encryption can be ok if the data that you’re encrypting is already really random (high min-entropy). Compressed audio and video streams have a decent amount of entropy

Ugh, USAA's 2-factor solution is such a pain in the butt. You can get a login token from their mobile app, but it's not very easy to find. I really wish they would just support U2F or FIDO.
