I think these have common solutions that don't require building more systems, running more queries and jacking up GPU bills, which is the direction we should be moving in at this point. e.g. asymmetric embeddings, instruct-based embedd

I’d be the first to say I’m not a fan of the TSA but this is a bit of an extreme take. Yes, you can bypass the measures, but there’s a fallacy in assuming they don’t still stop bad actors. iirc the TSA failure rate is an abysmal 70%, but I’

Equating everything to China or middle eastern countries is the 2023 equivalent of equating everything to Hitler. This is bad but not yet _that_ bad. I have to say though, EU legislature in recent years is on a very slippery slope.

I don’t know how this devolved into an America bashing thread but it’s worth noting that cheque transactions have other causes. You could make the same argument about the popularity of cash as a payment method abroad. ACH sucks but Zelle is

This is cool, I highly recommend Jay Alammar’s Illustrated Transformer series to anyone wanting to get an understanding of the different types of transformers and how self-attention works. The math behind self-attention is also cool and eas

I switched from Chrome to Edge 4ish years ago. It was honestly faster, didn’t rev up my laptop fan, and over time they added things like the automatic privacy tooling that I enjoyed. Now they’re messing up where it matters. The endless prom

Interesting article but it sounds like all the author had to do was schedule an appointment and wait 30min. Also the conclusion is discouraging: rather than make self payment easier, the IRS easily has the information available to estimate

I don’t understand the controversy in this issue. It seems they could have saved a lot of time spent throwing shade back and forth by just implementing a feature flag. The argument against the feature flag is ultimately more egregious; it’s

I think that this has been fleshed out quite a bit, the reason you’re not seeing much vocality about it today is threefold: - ChatGPT is less applicable to mil/leo’s and broader govt, and is the central piece of these discussions becau

I think OP mischaracterized the issue with the license, its more that the weights don’t fall under the same scope. They’re research use only, no commercial use allowed.

We block ChatGPT, as do most federal contractors. I think it’s a horrible exploit waiting to happen: - there’s no way they’re manually scrubbing out sensitive data so its bound to spill out from the training data when prompting the model -
