This, 100%. I like closing my lid at the end of the day and knowing that when I open it again the following morning it'll resume without a hitch and i'm straight back to where I was.

For slicing and dicing text, nothing is faster. It's a learning curve though. I'm 16 years along the curve and still learning things.

As an Architect, i'd say my role is more Principal/Staff Eng these days. I spend at least half my week coding (which is great!) Whilst i'm ultimately accountable for the Architecure to c-suite (i.e. ensuring it meets NFR'

I don't perceive an IDE crisis. We've never had it so good! There are multiple options, most of them are "free" and they'll all get the job done. Each of them has their own particular quirks, but I wouldn't des

this is the same in the UK. Childcare costs are abhorrent. As a sample of one, I have twins at ~2yrs old. We pay ~£3,000 per month between private nanny and private nursery. It's literally 2x our mortgage cost.

Wondering what your issues were with Pulumi also? I'm leading the engineering at a startup based in the UK and we actively chose Pulumi over CDK, TF etc.... Been going 12months now and we're really pleased with the decision so far

yep, exactly my experience too. Never had an initial 6 month contract turn out to be "just" 6 months. Shortest duration during my stints was 18 months (2 renewals).

find the strength brother! When my kids are my age, i'll be 80. My father is still going strong so i'm trying to do everything I can to maximise QoL as I age in order to be there for my kids in future.

I spent 8yrs working as a contractor in London for rates between £600 - £950pd. Architecture roles - which to some companies meant spending time coding (yay) and to other companies spending time on non-coding activities; aligning teams, str

I've found that nothing lights a fire under your ass to get yourself into shape quite as much as having kids, especially as I was on the older side when I had mine.

I think what a lot of people forget to mention / misunderstand about LtdCo contracting is that, yes you can choose to draw a small PAYE salary and take little to no dividend and pay next to no tax in a particular tax year, if you so ch

Sadly, all flavours of UK government have had their grubby mitts on IR35 and failed to do anything meaningful with it. Labour introduced the idea (thanks Gordon Brown), the Lib/Con coalition did a "review" of it and then the

It really depends on how complex your solution is and how AWS savvy your team are. I'd argue that if your team is writing business logic code, it's not going to be a huge time investment to get them up to speed with the various AW
