Yes, there's an error there, conflating two ideas. I think tabs-only can still cause a problem, say when lining up comments on the end of a line because there might be a different amount needed per line depending on its length. Still, you

Network effects and name recognition can work against it for a time. I'm thinking currently about the demise of Kodak, and similar situations where where a dominant player is displaced by new technology. Had Kodak pursued digital early and

The reason is that when sharing code use of tabs can lead to confusion, subtle, and not so subtle errors, especially in Python, where consistent indentation is most important. For example, one person has tabs set to the size of 8 chars and

I've thought about this, your example and also moon or mars bases. While theoretically possible, the thought of trying to do major underground construction (with limited resources) in a space suit seems wildly impractical.

Everything you've said is true, but it's a relatively small industry, very custom (where linux shines), and little overlap with others.

Thanks, I did look for this scene but couldn't find it. "Whole movie" indeed. So... why did some clown downvote my comment?

True. I remember someone here complaining about that just the other day, said it was a bad idea, but I can't remember why. I prefer the shell doing it.

Yep, NIH. DOS was primitive but the things you mentioned worked, even if they were a simulation. The end user was unaware, unless they needed real OS capabilites. In which case, why were they using DOS? Cmd has a lot of improvements most

The promise of the web was the democratization of publishing... anyone could do it, cutting out the middle-men. Now you tell us a "professional" has to be involved, no thanks. As long as its readable I'm happy. I look at a lot of these pr

DOS supported those you mention, and cmd.exe finally has them on by default in recent winders. It is still primitive though in everything else, e.g. scripting. Powershell with its weird syntax is a big improvment, but we split up after XP

People are not generally angry at "the rich," but rather the fat leaches on the govt and financial sectors. I've not heard anyone complaining about the self-made man.

I'm sarcastic in general, and when receiving accusations respond. Of course we could always improve our writing in general. If you don't like your argument critiqued, perhaps you shouldn't do it either?

If you need code to display a text document, you're doing it wrong. There is a philosophy (with some merit) of worse is better. So, let's be honest... you're promoting sloppy coupling in order to save developer time. The problem is that
