Simpler explanation: it’s grueling work that doesn’t pay market rates. Intel has been the semiconductor industry standard for comp for years, and they’ve lagged in this department for a decade. This has depressed the whole industry’s pay as

Id have bought a lot of lunches for myself if I had a dollar for every time I’ve pushed my team for documentation and had it turn into a discussion of “Well, how does that stack up against other priorities? ” It’s a pretty foolproof way fo

Answers like this are sort of what makes me wonder what most engineers are smoking when they think AI isn’t valuable. I don’t think the outright dismissal of AI is smart. (And, OP, I don’t mean to imply that you are doing that. I mean this

I’m a bit behind where you are with my side businesses, and the way I feel about them is more acutely aware of the time tradeoff I have to make to work on them. To side hustle on my job board, I have to give up hanging out with my kid. That

Where can I learn more about this Kicad git workflow? I’ve heard a lot about it but I’d like to see it for myself.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll get in touch via email in the next few days. I don’t think the goals of “human in the loop” and “fast and decent” are mutually exclusive, or really even at odds with each other. I just think that most autorouters

I wish the Kicad team had sunk all the time they put into simulation support (which I rarely use, in or out of kicad) into a proper constraint system instead. If I need to sim, I’ll just use LTspice or TI TINA - I.e. the simulation ecosyste

The tools are fractured, the existing players are lumbering behemoths, and the users are cranky zealots (you will have to pry KiCad out of my cold dead hands). These last five years have been absolutely incredible to watch in Kicad’s de

I haven’t tried sticking an image in it yet, but I drafted a blog post in it already this morning. Very fun. Nice and lightweight. I like it. I may submit a PR for you - I have some ideas about how I could make this more personally useful.

I really like this, for two reasons: 1) I’ve been getting sick of Jekyll and using it to write, because I find all the work of managing images tedious. 2) my first name is Nash, so this feels like it was made for me. :)

I always use ascii_invaders, an ncurses based Space Invaders clone, as my first test package on a new buildroot system. Here’s how to add it, if you’re curious. (Blog is from a job site I run.) https://www.firmwarejobs.com/b

Worked with the folks at Zetier previously. They’re bright. Go work with them if you want to do some cool VR stuff.

Is there any meaningful reason that states couldn’t start their own equivalent 18F at the state level? I live in Massachusetts and I know a bunch of socially conscious techies who’d love to help out in this manner. I have no idea if there i

I’ve only ever done hard connect updates over USB and manually pushed updates over local network. The team I was on was on track to switch over to pulled updates using Suricatta but I left before they switched them on.

Part of why it gets so much criticism is that Yocto’s learning curve is pure brutality . Out of the box configurations for Yocto images and recipes are fabulous. Trying to modify those configurations below the application layer… you’re gon
