AFAICT it's impossible to get from _any_ vendors now. The XZ3 compact doesn't exist, and the only other phone I know of that has a comparable screen size is the Nokia 1, which as a phone isn't comparable at all. There are al

The XZ1 compact is only 5g heavier than the X compact. Does it really make that much of a difference? The XZ2 compact is quite a bit heavier. That would be great if the battery were larger, but it isn't (at least not by much).

That's not really being fair; Windows was created decades before Android (one decade if you only count NT). The security model is different, because it was created in a different computing era. I think the difference in API stability

I DD a car with a backup camera. It is the nav and entertainment stuff that I find distracting.

I suspect that backup cameras make the car less safe overall. The reason is that the image from a backup camera is displayed on a screen. Cars with backup cameras display information on the screen when the car is moving forward, which can

Cars with automatic transmissions (either planetary gear or dual-clutch) do often get better gas mileage than those with a traditional manual stick shift. The reason is not what some might think. Once, a manual transmission was considered

I've suspected for a while that the pharmaceutical companies are manipulating the drug pages on wikipedia. Often I'll come across a claim about a drug and then click on the reference, only to find that the reference says somethin

What if you had samples from multiple hard drives in the same room? Could they be combined to provide a better signal than a sample from a single drive alone?

I keep trying firefox mobile every few months, and it feels really sluggish on my phone compared to chrome. I really want to like it; firefox has for a decade been my browser of choice on the desktop because of add-on support (which unfortu

Advertising isn't fundamentally bad for privacy, otherwise newspapers and movies would be bad for privacy; it's targeted advertising (which requires keeping a profile for each user) that is fundamentally at odds with privacy.

I think $5/year feels about right for a low-traffic personal blog. I also think free makes sense, if the business model is to get people using the tool for personal projects, hoping they will recommend it at work.

It's more like saying that you'd save fuel by running an equivalent ICE at home. You'd be unlikely to save money , because of economies of scale.

Yes, it does -- why else would the endurance racing world be embracing hybrid technology? A hybrid car has won Lemans for the last 5 years. At least with the Prius-style hybrids, though, regenerative braking isn't the only advantage:

I think, among other things, it has to do with the size of the swap space relative to the speed of the swap device. IME high disk i/o combined with large swap space means swap never fills up and the OOM killer doesn't kick in. O
