you can swap cmd and ctrl keys if you want, in the keyboard area of system preferences. you can also change caplocks there to something more useful. for home/end is the problem them not moving the cursor? try cmd-up-arrow and cmd-down-arrow

No way. The "self help" industry is not full of correct but obvious advice. Lots of it is wrong and harmful advice. Including most books about dieting or parenting.

Why not call IBM? You might enjoy it. More resources. Maybe you can make progress faster. Going it alone is hard. It's necessary if no one agrees with you, or no one else would do it right. But here? I don't see the compelling reason not to
