If you turn the data off on say, an iPhone, it's as good as say, an iPod touch with calling capabilities, which is really all a lot of people want.

"The idea of changing behaviour, conditioning living creatures, to obey rules enforced my machines feels very disturbing to me." I've made use of this technique on myself; I've got a concentration app that, when turned on, will make an abho

It's an interesting concept, but how does it differ (not technically, but practically) from, say, OS X's built-in document version control, "Versions"?

Perhaps I'm not being clear enough; I'm aware that wasn't what was being argued, but it did very little to dispel that narrative, which it plays into. Still, looking back, it seems to be a somewhat overblown critique. I didn't feel that it e

I'm no expert, but this hasn't convinced me yet: 1. The author shows one anecdotal example of the effect being claimed, and then claims that it's a large factor based again, on wholly anecdotal factors. 2. The author uses as evidence that t

Anonymous needs to get a better understanding of the effects of their actions. I'm all for taking illegal but morally acceptable actions on a calculated and reasonable basis. Using vigilante website-takeovers as a way to call for a more fai

I'd say DemandProgress, stopping SOPA, and codirecting the Progressive Change Campaign Committee are all pretty notable as well. If you read the things people who associated with him wrote, there seems to be a rather long tail to the things

A few things that should be noted: "There are only a bunch of fonts that designers use." This really isn't true. There are about a hundred or so that are particularly common that any good designer should be able to recognize on sight, but t

Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't it just be that people are seeing improvements because running this every second makes more memory heavy apps in the background leave ram? It seems, just looking at the comments here, that symlinkers ha

I don't buy it. Snapchat's advantage is that you have friends who use snapchat. Poke isn't catching on simply because nobody uses it; Snapchat is the fourth most downloaded free app on the App Store, whereas Poke is at 145. Any of the thing

This is one of the most nonsensical posts I've seen in a while. Microsoft has no substantial commercial interest in getting people to use IE. I'd guess it's most important to make IE relevant so that people don't run away from Windows Phone

Chocolat, on the mac, switches to comic sans when the trial runs out. Using it for a couple weeks before jumping to the full version, I can vouch for that it's actually surprisingly good for writing code. Much better than most proportional
