Texting while driving does actually kill, but there is a less definable/unpopular "them" to target.

Feudalism is not a terrible analogy. It's just not complete. It's still stick, but now we get carrot too. We still get the stick as in - don't pay your taxes and you go to jail or can't pay rent - you're out on the

Using f.lux, you could select a location closer to the equator in the same timezone. I just checked and mine thinks I'm in South Africa and I'm actually in Europe. No wonder my screen was darkening too early! Edit: Added specifici

I love this idea, but where do they all stand? Surely someone is paying the lobbyists - or is it only internet providers?

It's a terrific plea from Sam. He speaks for Ycombinator and by proxy, independant hackers like myself. But there is just so much peace of mind in it for the big boys.

Thanks for this, I just posted the first link I found on Youtube after the Facebook stream timed out. Only realised at the end that it wasn't official :/

I'm really not sure. It was the first thing I found on Youtube after the Facebook live stream ground to a halt.

I image using a similar jig, but with wider tubing and possibly mixing the straw in as clay mixture is being poured out. But how would keep the cob mixture consistent? Pre separated components, like the sand, clay, straw? Depending on how w

True, that statement does suffer from overreach. I was stuck in thinking of big government and entrenched players using economic tools to stifle positive disruptors. Of course there is a role for good as well.

I'm not sure about a bureaucratic approach, bureaucracy seems to be limited by a need to conserve the status quo. The more popular approach is a company like Tesla which seems to be on the verge achieving - or at least sparking - a hug

Am in the same camp. Not that into my phone at all, my 16gb iphone is battered and almost entirely unloved, but holy smokes, Maps/Uber can be useful/life saving.

I can't agree more. Seems like such an a NB feature to skimp on. I might even still buy this for the SD card / bluetooth, which I want for playing music, but the lack of GPS really kills it's chances of being a primary phone.

This is really attractive, SD card, bluetooth, long battery life. But there is no GPS, so no maps. That's a lot to compromise. Seems they really went all out in not making it a smart phone replacement.

For a billion light year distant planet, they would be seeing earth of a billion years ago.

by ctack 10y ago
Right now, an observer 39 light years away would be receiving our light and thus seeing the earth of 39 years ago. So these planets, should they have observers and amazing telescopes would be able to see the Earth of 1977.
