Thanks, that's a good question. We are more targeted towards small-time content producers than the major movie production companies. Think mom and pop store selling custom bags vs Nike bags sold at Walmart. We run on Google Appengine &

We're using Amazon Cloudfront so there should be an edge server in Europe, but maybe it takes awhile before it's distributed there. That being said, I've got a slower connection at home which can stutter on some of the HD stuff. It's a tr

Hey HN, My co-founder and I have recently launched our project which lets people build stores to sell their streaming video content. We've been working on it for almost 5 months now. Let us know what you think! Sincerely, Chris & Ivan

Canaries were once used as an early warning system in coal mines since they had a much lower tolerance of toxic gases like carbon monoxide. A dead canary meant to "get the hell out" as soon as possible.

Good thing is that several different unique ids can be interlinked to the same entity. I was using Wikipedia page_ids and IMDB's titles when playing around with it previously. It's a little bit messy, but it works.

I've also heard the opposite on HN many times: The best solution is the simplest one which solves 80% of the problem. Very important when creating a minimum viable product.

Here's the evidence: http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/8q2pz/ask_reddi... In my case, Appengine does not support recursive SQL queries, so another method had to be used.

In my experience, one big block of time is worth more than the equivalent in small blocks of time. Rarely do I find a task taking less than 15 minutes (especially in design, which I'm admittedly weak at), and I usually can't get into the "

I tackled this problem on appengine a while ago. Turns out that the average discussion thread has few enough comments that they can be fetched from the db in one call (e.g. by the thread_id). This makes even deeply nested comments fairly s
