I'd suggest waiting until you want to start collaborating on a project. My first few scripts used folders for version control, and it was perfectly adequate. Why wait? Here's a few reasons: 1. If you've only written one script, then your

The data entered into the store has to be validated somewhere. The advantage is that the schema needs only be stored within the code instead of both the code and the database.

Hey Matt, As someone who has lived in NB (Fredericton) for most of my life, I feel I can relate to your problem. Even though F'ton is a university town, and known as one of the more tech-centered places in NB, it is still seriously tough t

I agree that these shoes are fantastic for running. The one thing that annoys me about them though, are the independent toes. Sure, they feel a bit more "free" than normal shoes, but on the other hand, they make the shoe tougher to put on

One reason to import something within a function would be for lazy loading. If I do end up having many different imports, I tend to group them by library/framework. I've learned a lot by looking at the source code for guido's rietveld: ht

Seconded. I'm really impressed with the amount of features he has been able to pack into DuckDuckGo while keeping the design dead simple.

I'm excited to see that someone is working on a high level database API. This will be very useful for hooking up non traditional databases like bigtable or couchDB.

A simple item based algorithm which has been reported to work quite well is Slope One. The advantages are that it is easy to implement, can be updated on the fly, and it works well (enough) for sparse data sets. http://www.daniel-lemire.c

This is a really good idea. Whenever I learn a new language, it is always a pain re-learning how to do common tasks. Is anyone interested in working on this as an open source side project with me? My preferred stack is Python, Django, App

Instead of following the blog, you might want to check out the appengine group: http://groups.google.com/group/google-appengine I'm actually quite impressed with their work. The platform (despite its limitations) is extremely easy to wor

Threading is a great idea because you can easily follow a discussion, and it takes up much less space than quoting. The disadvantage is that often there is a lot of scrolling to be done when you're not interested in a particular subtopic.

The graphics and layout of your site look great :) I have a suggestion that might be of use: reduce the content on your main page so that the user can tell in 15 seconds or less what your site does, and how to get started. Some examples: -

The stack traces are intentional. Since it's an open source project, I figured I would make debugging as easy as possible. As for the DOM injection, I will look into that after I have fixed the major bugs.

Hi siong, Your site looks nice :) I'm going to be working on a developer sandbox once I fix most of the major bugs. This should let people write python code in their browser and have it run on the server. The API is very simple: around 5

The scrolling bug should be fixed now, and I think the auto-complete bug should also be fixed. I turned off box shadows in safari, so that might speed things up a bit. There's still a lot of room left for javascript optimizations after I g
