Code Complete, Clean Code, and Debugging were profoundly educational to me as a junior developer. The Obstacle is the Way helped me deal with personal issues, but it's still a work in progress. The Joy of Less was a great introduction

I have equity but its garbage. I know I'm being severely underpaid but after college graduation I was desperate to take the first available job offer (the salary was actually 85k at the time). What's a reasonable salary to ask for

Out of curiosity, is past drug use considered an automatic disqualification? I've never been convicted of literally anything, my record is 100% clean. But let's just say college was a very experimental period of time. I'm int

I'm a shitty person but I schedule my phone screens either early in the morning before work (I come in at 10am), or during gaps in my work schedule, and I'll go to the parking lot and sit in my car for the phone screen. Luckily no

Highlighting and writing inside of books is criminal. For every book I read I made a Google doc and write down key ideas in my own words. I try to review these docs periodically to keep refresh my memory.

Developers are some of the biggest fucking assholes I've met. At least everyone I know has called someone else a fucking idiot at least once. I've been called that as well. No matter how intelligent, hard working, and productive a

Online resources are often shallow in content. I prefer to deep dive into a topic and truly learn it inside and out by reading a good book. Blogs and tutorials don't give you that deep insight.

When I'm learning something new I try to take notes by hand or type them up. Every few days I'll rewrite what I learned from memory, as much as I can remember. Then I'll compare my current notes to my previous notes and fill

I'm not OP but where I live (Mountain View), libraries don't accept computer books published more than 4 years ago. I'm pretty sure the rest of the SV libraries are like that.

I use Facebook to chat with friends and organize social events but do not post personal content. LinkedIn is truly awful, my feed is flooded with recruiters complaining about candidates or posting cringy motivational stories.

Out of curiosity, how much information do you retain from all the books that you've read? Especially when reading technical books, do you take notes and review them later? I personally forget the majority of what I read and only rememb
