I've found that phone calls are good when people ignore or are bad at reading email (miss questions, fail to respond/read, don't read it completely, etc). For people who are good at email, phone calls are good (or the same as IM) when you

In a way, yes, the programming projects in ML seemed like a better measure of performance in that you have to actually figure something out. However, they have two (sort of) disadvantages vs normal homework: 1) you immediately know if you

As far as I know, the High Speed Rail system is not maglev and modern trains have roughly them same energy efficiency as modern planes.

How much bandwidth are they saving by making a P2P network? I made up some numbers and got about 30k$ a month at S3 prices, is that worth building and maintaining this P2P network instead of just a bunch of servers?

They're not really clear, but supposedly it's unlimited as long as, say, 50% of your mintues/texts/data are done through wifi.

I think the implication of the article is that it would not use an existing carrier at all. Republic wireless still relies on traditional cell phone networks to handle calls/data/texts when not in range of wifi.

Oddly enough, you can get an unlimited plan on the Sprint network through Virgin Mobile for $55 a month.

The key part is when the anonymous buyer remains anonymous. If his invention works, why not patent it and let everyone see the internals? EDIT: Looks like there supposedly is a patent: "a method and apparatus for carrying out nickel and hy

My understanding is that some people just restart the JVM periodically to avoid GC pauses. How does that compare for web applications?

Well as long as they add more digits for longer numbers, I foresee no problems.

The ATT iPhone costs I think 80$ a month. If you get a Virgin Mobile phone with the same plan, it costs 35$ per month. And the Virgin Mobile plan is a little better. I was also basing this off of the Sprint iPhone costing roughly the same

I can't find either of these plans on their website. I went to buy a Micro SIM card, and the only unlimited everything plan is 105$ a month. There is no 100 minute plan or 30$ plan that I can find.

You may be correct as I think I saw an informal survey of iPhone 4S buyers that stated only a small percentage were upgrading. However, iPhone 3GS users for the most part have had the phone 24 to 12 months, and if you are eligible for an up

In San Francisco, where I live, they have basically a monopoly on high speed internet. Here are the options and speeds I have tested: 1) DSL (through ATT or Sonic.net, I got Sonic's ADSL2 service) ~$60 a month, 3.4/0.86 Mbps 2) Monkeybrain

I looked at this, but they want to charge a high installation fee and have a 1-year contract. Can you avoid the installation fee if you already have residential service? What about the contract?

It can be flaky, sometimes the bar doesn't appear, but usually it does. I have the page bookmarked to I can check it easily. It sorta feels like I'm living in the 1990s and checking on my dial up modem.
