Exactly, $45 or $150 is not exactly going to break the bank for a commercial venture. If it is something you need, and it saves you a couple of hours of time, then you're ahead.

There is good, quality classical still being written today. Try John Adams, for example. His website is www.earbox.com My favorite piece of his is Harmonielehre, but there is lots of great stuff there.

Of course Einstein is famous for not knowing his own phone number in Princeton. He didn't see the point in remembering things he could look up.

He says he is not a lot of things, but OR person isn't one of them. In fact, what he does do sounds very much like OR to me. Do you think OR is a scary term for the masses? I find saying I do Operations Research works with many people. It

Given that his degree is in Operations Research, I wonder why he doesn't say he does Operations Research, rather than Industrial Mathematics. I often say I do OR.

If you liked the article, then you should read Chris Anderson's book Makers: The New Industrial Revolution. Lots of interesting stuff about the "Maker" revolution, with 3d printing, etc. He also tells about 3d robotics got going. I really

For some reason, I find it harder to find what I'm looking for in the R help than just about any other language. That's why you end up not knowing about useful packages for a very long time. Is that just me?

I've benefited from lots of theoretical classes, and you're absolutely right that you need to understand the theory of what you're doing. For example, I took a lovely class from Prof. John Hooker (at CMU) that derived Linear Programming du

I do derivations all the time. I just do a series of algebraic transformations, starting from what I have, and getting to what I need. Some might say that I'm doing a proof. But I never use proof by contradiction, contrapositive, induction,

I don't know about the OP's point on the value of proof to programmers. I do optimization and machine learning, and I use all kinds of math on a regular basis. But I don't prove things, and rarely need to follow someone else's proof eithe

I've built gender identification models from first names, using census data. In playing with that data, it seems to me that African American names have a longer tail distribution. That is, the top 100 names cover a much smaller fraction of

They have some filters. You can't take out ads on pharmacy, alcohol, or drug related terms for example. I'd assume they have filters on hate related words as well.

Just to be clear, when I said: > They see it as an underage Facebook. I meant the underage kids, not Facebook itself. I wouldn't say Instagram solicits kids, just that there are lot of them on there.

It is all personal taste I guess. Mine was about half that price for the 1000M. Their value is in the beautiful cases and bracelets, all CNC cut from a hunk of stainless steel. They are among the most waterproof watches on the market. I'll

You should check out UTS watches. The German guy who started it had a business selling high end CNC machines. I guess he wanted to make something with them. So he cuts the cases for these watches on his machines. He puts a nice mechanica

I wonder exactly what violations they're dealing with. My son's junior high is full of kids using Instagram. They see it as an underage Facebook. That could be it. Or is there some wave of people using an assumed name.
