There are so many cheap online manufacturers. I feel like this is more the last gasp of an overpriced overserviced industry, like if there was a consolidation of travel agents in 2003.

What it that something depends on a different operating system and libraries that conflict with yours? Also the world you describe as should is not the world we live in. I should be able to exist in the world without danger or undue prosect

The author's answer would be to reduce your database dependencies to one. Good luck with that!

A lot of people who grow up poor have a hard time adjusting their spending habits to optimize their life when they become well off. I've known such people who will go through great aggravation, follow on sunk costs no good reason, and

For many people here the finances of their tech are not a concern. It’s the source of our income so minor efficiencies can have a big impact on productivity and income. For me any reasonable expense that I will gain value from is worthwhile

Funny enough, with Google releasing Debian on Chrome OS, this may actually become an option soon.

The value is that it is online on an ec2 instance on the Aws network , which may or may not be something you want. Also git+IDE is exactly what I use with Cloud 9. C9 is the IDE.

Replacing the hardware and restoring your environment is expensive and time consuming, sometimes prohibitively so. Let's say you're on a road trip through Mexico... Also backing up a Macbook to the cloud is a lot of data, and Appl

In reality those environments are not "the same". You have all sorts of libraries that are compiled and set up specifically for your system, and those differences add up. With Cloud 9 everything is on an EC2 instance with Linux,

I use a single 4k screen. Most Chromebooks have no problem with this. I have not tried dual 4k screens, however I think a Pixelbook is capable of this. One thing I've discovered is that much screen real estate is overkill for me, and

A few months ago my Macbook Pro screen cracked while I was on a road trip. I thought I was screwed, but decided to try development on a Chromebook I had lying around. That was when I discovered AWS Cloud 9. After getting back my repaired fu

Would this artist have made any money if they had assigned all rights and not ownership to the client? No. So what's the difference?

Nobody can say for sure. However the music is why the album sold, and I think why people want to associate themselves by buying t-shirts and posters.

The nature of employment is that we produce works for hire. I don't see any exploitation here. Do album cover artists ever get windfalls from successful? Unlikely I think, unless of course they were well known artists who insisted on r

It's interesting how everyone hates the App Store approval model until they demand it be implemented more strictly.

And Facebook or Google? They certainly track your location without a user centric business case. I don't think ad presentation qualifies.

This doesn't make any sense as a motivation, let alone the primary motivation, to build a native app in the age of web apps. There's no real difference in security here and the user perception gain is marginal and ephemeral.

Nothing will. The vulnerability of what happens to your data after it is sent to a third party is the same for any app, web or native. The biggest difference is that it's way easier to see where you're data is being sent in a brow

Why would anyone assume that our species existed for 300k years without making art? This makes no sense and seems to be the claim that must be proven, not vice versa.

The need is for defaults. I want everyone using end to end encryption by default. If Signal became the default, great.

Sure. I'm not interested in spending my time hacking my phone tho, and I want to use Google services. I want privacy by default. Also I'm less concerned about Google having my data than my messages being sent plaintext through car

Sure it's not perfect. The point is a default that respects and enforces privacy. It is night and day from Android. I wish Apple would open the protocol.
