I don't agree. We know that people are not 'rational actors' that maximize personal profit at every turn, and we should not base our economics around that known false idea. I think it is wise to produce better models with new

I think your illustration has failed, though, because I would very much choose b). I consider a) as an evil in the world and would avoid participating in that if at all possible. b) sounds like a really good choice for long-term investment

I still don't understand this. Most people are motivated by a lot more than the desire to pay less rent. Jobs change, people move, they go upward in their careers, etc. Is there any evidence to suggest that rent prices are actually &qu

This phrase is repeated frequently throughout these comments but never with an explanation. I think the opposite of that phrase is true; that in these circumstances, rent control is part of what will enable an increase in the supply of ho

I was under the impression that some rents can be increased during the lease. I do not think it is only a renewal event, by law. > Rent control deters the creation of new housing. I keep seeing this repeated but I don't understand.

Not all regulations are equal. Merely because some past law was bad does not mean all future laws will be bad. Saying that rent control is bad because past zoning (or other law) was bad doesn't make sense.

Can you explain what you mean? I don't follow. Rent control is a bandaid that provides a level of stability to the lower classes. They can live without daily anxiety of being rudely defacto 'evicted' by radical, surprise rent

Lots of discussion on the possibility of going or communicating, but for me the excitement is the narrowing of uncertainties in the Drake equation and the focusing of discovery of alien life, intelligent or otherwise. Discoveries like this

I don't think it's amazing to reach large local maxima for production efficiency when the major risks are ignored and we know about problems piling up that could dramatically reduce that efficiency in the future. I think targeting

Has this changed on Android in recent years? I remember building a Camera app with a smaller-than-fullscreen viewfinder. I believe I got to set the dimensions of the viewfinder myself, making it as arbitrarily small as I wanted (or even opt
