Haha, now that part is just sleight-of-hand. When you click (technically, mousedown) on the google doc link, we copy a new item to the pasteboard, so now instead of {"html": joker_image, "plaintext": card_you_picked}, it

Agh. Turns out Firefox doesn't support it, my bad! Safari and Chrome work fine, but I'm guessing that's not an option for many Linux users. Sorry!

Thank you! Had to implement something related to this at work, and thought "huh... what else can I do with this?" :P I think the real magic is in the last step, when you're on a generally-trusted 3rd party website (Google doc

Fair enough! If you have a Mac, you can try the TextEdit tool (which also supports rich text), as an alternative to Google Docs.

Fair point! The way it work is this: you can copy multiple filetypes to the clipboard. So here, I copy a "text/html" and a "text/plain". When you paste to Google docs, it reads "text/html", and o

Hi HN! This weekend, I made a magic trick that you can try out in your browser. Works best on desktop. Also, for those who don't like it, Google Docs not required--JIRA comments or most other WYSIWYG editors will also work. Hope you en

I love it--realistic example of working with the production codebase, and a chance for the interviewee to see the actual code quality + practices they'd be dealing with.

Right? The problem is articles could potentially have early media content, specifically a fat youtube iframe, in the case of the DIY 3d scanner article. I'm glad for this feedback, though. I'll play around with slightly dropping i

Thanks! At first they were rendered HTML of the entire article (because nextjs makes that easy), but that caused performance issues, especially on mobile Safari. So now they're auto-generated screenshots. Glad you like them!

I love that quote. To get where you want to be, it may be helpful to build the skills you want, before you need them. At this point, an organization like Apple is too cemented to easily change. I think you can't learn _everything_ on t

I think this is possible to do with JS + WASM/Service workers? And even with many background threads, in WASM: https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2018/10/wasm-threa...

You don't? I don't think activists only use TOR, I'd imagine they layer a VPN on as well, they're not mutually exclusive.

I think a big portion actually comes from image-hosting for other websites. Stack exchange, for example, uses Imgur for image hosting when you attach an image with your answer.

So critical. So some parsing is done off the device due to performance constraints. You'll need internet access anyway to pull down the RSS feeds, and a middleman Lambda/CF worker won't add much latency. I think it's a p

I can't find the article saying that the most recent common ancestor between humans and octopi doesn't dream. I think that'd be quite hard to prove, since that species is likely extinct.

That’s a great approach! It reminds me of a similar approach I did when I still commuted to work: putting the sticky notes directly on the laptop. At the end of the day, I’d put the laptop in my backpack, and the sticky notes would get crum
