These are the times (in UTC) at which JiaT75 interacted with the Github API. JiaT75 is the Github user behind the xz backdoor. These timestamps are more reliable than Git timestamps as they cannot be tampered with, they are recorded server

I'm basing this on Github's activity archive as queried through Clickhouse - which is much harder to fake than git commits: https://play.clickhouse.com/play?user=play#U0VMRUNUCiAgY3JlY... See the writeup here: ht

I think there's a typo in the section on arbitrary thresholds. Specifically in the sentence about 16% being within 0.1 of the cutoff. I have a feeling this should be 0.01 as mentioned later.

Which nation state (if any) is most likely behind this? China based on name, or is this a red herring? The perpetrator did most GitHub actions between 10 and 18 UTC, which sort of rules out US based, unless the messages were scheduled. Cons

Excellent, consumer protection orgs should do this much more frequently. Often they are the only ones with standing to sue in these types of cases.

There should be no `b` here in the println, this looks like a typo: while let Some((a, a + 1)) = iterator.next() { println!("({}, {})", a, b); }

Interesting data but the write up is poor. Graphs would be very helpful. There are two important variations here: how much does attractiveness scores for _the same person_ vary by different raters, and how does that compare to the variation

Original study: http://www.stat.columbia.edu/~gelman/stuff_for_blog/sheena.p... Yes it's that Gelman, but he's not an author.

"Speaking" is a hyperbole. It allows you to say exactly 5 phrases with 95% accuracy, after repeating each sentence 100 times. In other words, it's totally useless. The sentences are so different that they can be distinguished

Garbage, read the responses, here's one: > Zhao et al report 79% increase in actual number of cases from 1990 to 2019, but this figure can be misleading, as it does not take account of population growth. The authors therefore also r

Who is behind this? It's a new Github org, the committer ( https://github.com/OttoCoddo ) has a totally private Github profile. There's no name in "Legal". Sure, one can be anonymous, but I won't down

Video is a bad way to convey information like this. What's the source? CDC suicide data doesn't look at all different for 2023 compared to say 2022. This seems a bit of a clickbait title. https://www.cdc.gov/injury

True, signal per satellite is only around 150-160dBW on earth despite them radiating at 25W. Satellites are ~20000km away. If a jammer is 100 times closer (200km), they need to use only 1/10,000 (1/100^2) the power, so it's v

While I new that the shell has emacs-style bindings I didn't know these were really readline based and supported things like undo. I should go read up on more readline keybindings.

Science by press release. The results aren't even preprinted yet. Only some methods in a 2022 preprint. Looks hyped up, I'd ignore. > This press release is based on abstracts P0004 P0006, P0013, P0026 and P0004 at the European
