A question I've had about OpenCollective: Do they have any relation to the commons project? Their logos are virtually identical, and the OpenCollective logo has a similar colorway to that of their CommonPass project ( https://

I love commuting in my car. It's one of the only times I'm guaranteed solitude, and an opportunity to listen to or think about whatever I want in an enclosed space without interruption or surveillance (older car).

You can't convince people anymore. All that's left is resignation, anger, and used screens from the oughts.

The framing of people as prospectors looking to stake out their plot of a mine. I'd have framed the analogy in the terms of a tick climbing a tree for the opportunity to latch onto a large, diseased animal. A prospector might go on to

Oddly enough, this is the most optimistic way I've seen the state of our institutions described without agressively veering into the realm of fiction

The comments are already pretty low quality, and can be aggressively moderated by the company's algorithms. I doubt it'll be an issue.

Decades of research have illustrated the consequences of tobacco consumption. Science is descriptive, not prescriptive. The actions individuals and societies take based on that information are based on their own subjective values.

I wish we had a tiered set of safety requirements for vehicles. In my opinion, occupant safety should be much more negotiable than it is. A good example is the column thickness on modern vehicles. I'd gladly trade some roll-over protec

We're moving towards a state where simplicity and privacy is the province of the affluent. A simple, reliable product doesn't make for a repeat customer. If you buy what the Bollinger claims to be, you'll probably take care o

I'll preface that I really did enjoy Dune, because what I'm going to say about the book will come off as negative. The first third of the book reads like an encyclopedia article with a slow moving plot tacked onto the side, and si

There was a brief period where a police officer was reported as having been murdered by rioters at the Capitol [0], and iirc many people on social media conflated his death with footage of a riot officer being struck on the head by a fire h

Fastmail's been great for me, I love it. Unless I can find a similar premium domestic (US) offering that's near feature parity, and not a trillion dollar megacorp, I couldn't imagine leaving them.

A solution to slow this that doesn't involve chat splitting is introducing friction to onboarding in an otherwise open community. A Discord server in-which I'm active routinely executes arbitrary kicks on new members (not bans) as
