This comment is such shrill alarmist rhetoric that is not founded in reality. I think taking this approach is more harmful to your cause then you think.

It sure is supported. The NHS will delay or deny surgery to people if they are tobacco users or above a specific BMI. This was a pretty big debate in the UK a couple years ago. Crazy thing is this was motivated by cost cutting, not concerns

Your comment is a good example of the critique at the top of this thread. You start with the worst possible interpretation of my comment, use a metaphor about bestiality and immediately dismiss my comment as a fallacy.

We are off topic but I'd like to answer your question. It's increasingly become an issue in the public space because local governments are increasingly getting involved with this issue. Dissidents may believe that governmental pow

I think it's important to think of an ambiguous metric like quality and think of it across multiple dimensions. Quality to youtube means frequency, recency, personal, etc - attributes that create relationships between the creator and t

They basically already get that. All coastal communities and flood prone areas do. In the form of the National Flood Insurance Program. NFIP is massively subsidized flood insurance and does not charge nearly enough to cover the costs of lia

Stock buybacks serve important purposes that are often overlocked when this topic comes up. One major purpose of stock buybacks is to reduce the company's cost of capital. With debt financing being so cheap right now, we've seen f

We industrialized the world, lifted billions out of poverty, and increased living standards. Why do people ignore the human progress's we've made. Folks really need to have some perspective.

Along with older retirees, younger generations seem to be supportive of distributive policies that are going to tax them more during their highest earning years and shift more wealth to other groups. I don't see this trend changing any

Or the fact that the sun doesn't shine that much in Germany? Look at a world solar potential energy map. They are throwing money down the drain.

Be careful what you wish for. Look at Germany for the best example of what you are asking for. Ignore the PR and look at the data. They have increased solar capacity, but are closing natural gas and nuclear plants to build new lignite coal

Let's be a bit honest here. California public infrastructure has hardly contributed to the windfall people are getting due to their work in the tech industry.

Posts like this come around every year. There is a belief held by some that we should avoid making taxes easier to file. We shouldn't just take the number given to us by our government. Some believe filing a tax return should be an exp

How are you so sure of this? I don't think we have conclusive evidence of this. It depends on a bunch of factors, among them is what government revenue would fund it.

Business travelers would pay a lot more than $10. They already do pay a lot more to avoid taking the train. During peak times the Blue Line to Ohare takes more than 40 minutes. Also the ride is fairly unpleasant.

If by production you mean GDP, it's not as simple as that. Increasing production is not the only meaningful way to improve peoples lives. GDP is a very rough indicator for a society's standard of living and well being. GDP is real
