I'm in Europe. It turns up cheap here. You do have to hunt for it but I bag 1.92TB disk for $70 a pop usually. I have 5 already.

Usually whatever half decent Samsung, Micron or Intel ones are available. I have a 10 year old Intel one in one of my machines and it's still 95% health.

I usually buy second hand enterprise SSDs off eBay. No one bothers to fake them and they last longer than the consumer ones even if they are a few years old.

It depends who you are picking on and in which field. From direct experience some fields are very well organised when it comes to protecting their lack of scientific integrity. Gotta bag those conference expenses!

I have an iPhone 15 Pro. I am a semi regular Pixel user as well. I prefer the iPhone by a mile. 1. Mine sits flat too. It's in a rugged case. 2. You don't know how to use Photos properly. You create collections from the pool and n

It's actually incredibly cheap. I think our software distribution costs, in the account I run, are around $2.00 a month. That's pushing out several thousand MSI packages a day.

Yeah that. I'm not up for that. The post-processing is bad enough on my iPhone that I bought a mirrorless camera to use instead.

It's probably impossible to use as well. Just a 10x is fairly difficult to control. Plus AI upscaling. Fuck no.

I just stick CloudFront in front of those buckets. You don't need to expose the bucket at all then and can point it at a canonical hostname in your DNS.

I will say that most of the consumers of SaaS SSO solutions in our experience are the lowest bidding MSPs the customer can find or some oursourced operation. They usually employ the lowest paid fuckwits who play pass the blame around as lon

It’s not. They changed a lot of stuff in Sequoia. I know this because it broke something I rely on and I had to go fix it. It can’t even open a file without the correct entitlements and code signing done and permission granted by the end us

I prefer my French dumb car. If someone steals it, meh the insurance will pay out and I buy another one. Not that anyone is going to steal it. It’s just invisible. And it’s more comfortable and after 6 years lifetime it cost less than half

Er that's exactly how macOS works already. The App Sandbox stuff bounces through the kernel if something asks for access and you can say "no thanks". It's basically a proper Mandatory Access Control framework. And the ap

Our secops guys broke most of our laptops so the engineering teams can't use them for development. They told them to use a Hyper-V VM. So they do. With a Hyper-V vswitch that talks directly to the ethernet adapter rather than the VPN c

I'm desperately doing it a different way. I managed to beat off our corporate IT overlords and kept hold of windows 10 for a long time. I'm using that, virtualbox with debian in it and PuTTY. Far more reliable than WSL. I will swi

Think that’s fairly accurate. Also like religious ideologies there’s a lack of critical thinking and an inverse of applicability. The last one has been in my mind for a few months now. Back in the old days I’d start with a problem and find

Not much to it. Was bored, had some spare cash, was fed up of being an imposter at a stats/mathematics org and decided to get a degree. Did all the modules, got the paper. Took 6 years.

That’s idiotic really. I mean I’m not sure why you’d go to a European bank for investment advice other than “bank do money, ug”. There’s a whole advisory market out there which gives you better options based on your attitude to risk profile

WSJ are pushing it there. Depends what you mean by dominance. The US market is propped up on hyped big tech investments with little chance of ROI for shareholders other than inflating the valuations. PE ratio is quite frankly bananas too. A
