Yup, I couldn't see anybody higher than the Lhotse Face. Couldn't spot any tents on the South Col. Must be the wrong angle.

Others will be able to fill in more detail as I'm just going off memory here, but I think this is taken from the Nepalese side. The ice field just above Base Camp (which, wow, look at all those tents) is the Khumbu Icefall, which climbers

I hadn't known that Bruce Schneier created Pontifex for the book as I didn't know who he was back in the 90's. Kinda neat to circle back to an old favorite and learn that someone with whom you've become familiar since the last read contrib

Blog spam, inaccurate headline. Original article on npr: http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2012/12/07/166678... The boost was in 57% of "warrant services" whatever that means, not arrests. No numbers given for the increase in ar

Or you could view this as a fascinating case study regardless of all that. I'm personally horrified that Obama got re-elected but this post is cool as hell and I'm absolutely fascinated by this work and appreciate that Kyle took a few hour

I get that, but it's still sneaky. I would like to see the AppStore/PlayStore create a third category to add to "Free" and "Paid" being "IAP" It's to the point where in the AppStore I look to see if the top related purchase are some $4.99

Agreed. I hate "free" apps that are completely hamstrung until you buy some dumb in-app purchase.

There are many other places in the world than the Bay area, and my god am I ever sick of seeing this myopic perspective represented on HN.

Certificated private pilots like myself use iPads on an increasing basis in the cockpit. There is no issue with interference, nor is there any empirical evidence to indicate so. The ban is and always has been ludicrous.

Damn skippy. I signed a similar petition campaigning against airport user fees that would basically charge pilots to talk to air traffic control. What I got in response was a paragraph of bad analogies and poor logic...basically a "FYVM fo

I help fund the iKeyboard, which was (is) very similar to the Touchfire. It's an excellent execution of what I now see as a fundamentally flawed concept. Having to remove an object from my iPad when I want to switch apps, which is often,

"Likewise with great copywriting. If you don't trust that every word your co-founder wrote has importance, and that you should at least review with them before making changes, then you didn't pick the right co-founder. It's ok to work towar

No, that is what it feels like to a primadonna when you mess with their words. They conflate the quality of their work, a highly objective measure, with breaking tests and screwing up a server, a distinctly objective measure. No one's wo

The pitot static system had demonstrated itself to be failing, leading the pilots to lose faith in their instruments. Let he who has flown in the soup with flaky instrumentation cast the first stone.

Wonder if you still have to pay $10K a year just to get SSL. This is one of the biggest reasons, ok, the only reason we've used Bing or OSM for many of our clients.

Your simile doesn't work. One needs a driver's license to drive. One does not need a credit card to make purchases. And getting card actually can be a bad financial decision as too many cards can negatively affect a credit score.

Wouldn't do it. I'm just not willing to be a part of the squatter economy. That goes for domain names I hold as well. I've sold several and have never charged more than what I have in them. This is an extreme position, I realize this.
