Right you are; I did that and was able to see a bunch of stuff I'd not want to share over the web. :) Sheesh. Ruby runs over 3000, if you're not running the ruby server on 3000 there's not going to be anything listening. Facepalm.

I had the same question as we do mostly PHP; I'm guessing it just uses Ruby as the host software. I installed the Gem and was able to acquire a URL but kept getting an error: An error has occurred: {"stack":"Error: socket hang up\n at So

This pilot uses it right now; well, technically I use an app called ForeFlight that's a bit more mature than the app in the OP however it's the same exact concept. It's wonderful; I still keep paper charts as backups but never use them anym

That's symptomatic of being a fresh college grad (which this gal is...she's only four years out of school). You're still under the influence of being told you're smart because you got an A in whatever class. Take somebody like me, who's be

From TFA: "What does it mean to be educated?" Observing the dialogues over the last few weeks it seems that the participants all define being "educated" differently. But they are not establishing their perspective before stating their case

Ain't it though? They're referencing the stereotypical programmer behavior with such breathless wonder. Of course it probably wasn't stereotypical back then, but I was an 8 year old hacker who worshipped Steve Jobs when that was filmed so.

Good 'ol Turbo Pascal. I wrote an encrypt/decrypt program in TP and a friend of mine and I used to pass encoded messages back and forth on 3.5" floppy disks. To the subject at hand...I think it's a question of motivation. "Easy" was never

Thanks. Our language on the matter is very specific, and we are very explicit about that policy both in the contract paperwork and in our verbal communications. Even so, I'd say 3 of 5 clients try to pull the "we haven't been paid yet, we

Sure...I guess when I hear "time bomb" I think of something that wipes source code or data. Something that alters the bits and bytes. That's the thing that will cause you a world of hurt. What you're talking about is of course totally le

My small firm has never had cash flow problems and we've never had a client successfully avoid payment. (EDIT: We've had cash flow problems in the beginning due to being a startup, but never from non-payment). There are a few things that we

What am I missing? I don't understand why this college vs uncollege horse race is generating such furor. We're engineers not because it pays well (which thankfully it does) but...because we just _had_ to be. I was born to be an engineer and

The problem is that Zaarly doesn't actually have to be liable. Lawsuits cost defendants a ton of money and there are plenty of hungry PI attorneys out there that will litigate in hopes of contingency fees.

Not remotely serious. To be quite candid I forgot that there are languages that use the equal sign as both equality and assignment depending upon context. VB I think does that.

Fifteen, wasn't it? 1996 was the "reprinted from" date. The net was really just breaking public at that point. If I time traveled back to visit 1996-me, I don't think I could even explain what 2011-me did for a living because the technol

It's silly to us hackers that the paywall can be defeated with Firebug/CSS/JS, etc... But does that mean that the NYT has failed in their mission to monetize their content? I'm not sure it does. I still have conversations with lots of fo
