I like the debate because I've learned a lot of stuff about consciousness, thinking, free will, determinism, agency, intelligence, emergence, problems with reductionism, qualia, etc... Lots of these concepts may be related but it migh

This person is a US citizen. What happens if he just said nothing (beyond identifying and answering basic questions) and refused to cooperate? How long could they hold him? As a citizen they have to allow him to enter eventually. According

Why is off-grid a requirement? I’m in central Texas and it isn’t uncommon for rooftop solar to generate enough power to cover central a/c. Peak sun and peak a/c happen at the same time.

It’s so weird to think how computers have mastered stuff that we used to think took intelligence (like chess, go, mathematics problems) but are doing so poorly at things any idiot can do (like drive a car).

I keep wondering why there aren't more real world tests. Maybe hook up a bunch of the AIs to a stereo camera and a couple of microphones and give them control over actuators to so they can drive cars. Then lets race them around a somew

I wish somebody sold a remake of the original PC case for modern hardware. It’s such a great design.

In 10th grade (1985/86), I had a friend who worked in a small computer store. I was into computers so I dropped in one time to check it out. He introduced me to his boss and after a brief conversation he asked if I was interested in pr

It's so much easier than Vulkan or writing shaders and the performance is more than good enough for a lot of applications. I wonder if somebody has written a adapter layer to write old OpenGL and translate it on the fly to Vulkan?

Are there any serious legislative efforts to fix the ebook market? I know getting rid of DRM entirely isn't likely to happen, but at this point I'd be happy with just vendor-neutral DRM.
