> It seems like building a startup with the help of some AI tools might be the best bet. I'd only recommend taking that path if you already have your first paying customers standing by or are extraordinarily good at marketing.

Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient . When I read that book I found myself rereading pages because the prose was so beautiful. No book’s has come close to that for me. I didn’t know you could assemble words and sentences and paragraphs

IMHO, my kid was assigned way too much homework. One year I eventually told her to do some amount per class (I think it was 45 minutes) and then be done with it so that she would have time for sports and family stuff. She was spending 4 or

For some of the classes my kids were in, the lessons and homework time were reversed. Learning the material (using the text book and videos) was what they had to do at night and class time was spent working through problems or applying the

Off topic: when did using solve as a noun take off? There are so many good nouns that work there (challenge, task, etc...) or use the verb form (is tougher to solve).

I think my favorite game of the 80's was Carrier Command on the Atari ST. I don't know how well it would hold up today if I played it, but at the time I spent many happy afternoons and evenings piloting my carrier around.

Vapid characters aren’t a problem if they are doing something interesting or if there is non-trivial conflict or mystery or confusion or tension or drama of any sort or anything that leads to some kind of meaningful change in a character.

He’s a great writer. I subscribe to his podcast which is just him reading his essay/blog post (in one take!) every time he publishes. I don’t think any of them have been uninteresting to me.

Gatsby is one of those books I hated in high school. A few years ago I read it again and confirmed it’s a terrible book filled with shallow characters living boring lives doing nothing of interest to me. My opinion of 1984 also dropped when

Some of us think it's weird to accept the compromises you have to make to write cross-platform software, especially when you are using AI to write or help write the app.

How does that work with Firefox and Chrome's local network access (LNA) restrictions? Should a remote site be able to reconfigure your hardware? Or am I misunderstanding how this works?

I'd modify that to once you have kids, you might understand . It's for sure not a given and there are a lot of really terrible people out there who probably shouldn't have the kids they do.

It didn't come naturally for me. Babies aren't much fun. There were plenty of times I wondered why everybody else finds being a parent fulfilling and here I am trying not to swear at a crying six month old at 1 am. Toddlers though

This reminds me of Tim Urban's excellent post The Tail End [1] he wrote a few years ago. He calculates that when a person reaches age 18, they have spent more than 90% of their in-person parent time. As a parent and a son, that hits p
