In the US, 7-11 has started selling Japanese style egg salad sandwiches. I haven’t been brave enough to try one yet. https://www.7-eleven.com/products/fresh-chilled/egg-salad

No, I haven’t tried that yet. I don’t really want to turn on auto mode when it’s iterating on my credit card and it looks like it’s in an infinite loop… Is that a silly thing to be worried about? I work mostly in C++ (MFC applications on Wi

That’s a funny observation. I just can’t get a minivan, but I love station wagons. Unfortunately, they are getting more difficult to get.

Same here. I’ve had limited success getting AIs to do very simple stuff. Every one I’ve tried invents APIs that don’t exist and eventually get stuck in a circle where it tells me to try A. When that doesn’t work, try B. No luck? Try C. Hmmm

When my kids were small, we bought a minivan and it was pretty awesome. I really hadn’t thought much about it until… A couple of years ago, I rented one to help my kids move into college. It was a Chrysler of some kind and now I’m kind of t

Totally agree! And being able to whip together a webapp for your church is absolutely not the same thing as computer science. Computer scientists often program but not all programmers are computer scientists.

I thought this thread was about computer science. Working on a programming project is related to computer science in the same way that welding together a shelf is related to mechanical engineering.

Thats a little like saying if you want to learn mechanical engineering, fix things around your home and then do research when you get stumped. Building a bunch of software projects probably isn’t a very efficient way of learning computer sc

A while ago I tried to figure out which APIs use the NPU and it was confusing to say the least. They have something called the Windows Copilot Runtime but that seems to be a blanket label and from their announcement I couldn't really f

How are you calculating that? Google tells me that 2 lbs of steak contains between 225 and 270 grams of protein. That would be well over the threshold that the article I linked to a couple of posts up mentions: > Your kidneys process al

I think the zeitgeist is starting to turn on the high-protein diet recommendations: https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2025/11/looking-to-bu... There was a story about this in the NYT recently (can&#

I always wish they would include a sample menu for one week that hits the daily recommended dose for every vitamin, mineral, fat, etc... without going over some calorie limit.

In December I bought a GX-85. I love it even though it's 9 years old and still uses micro-USB. I got a great deal on it - $300. It doesn't seem like it would take a lot to keep this line going. Bump the sensor, change the USB cabl

It’s foolish to ignore the social component of addiction. Some of the medicines and treatments showing the most promise are still too expensive for many. AA programs are accessible and can be helpful. You think they treat alcoholism (or alc

I like to hear people talk about their hobbies and their favorite tv shows. I don't like asking about movies, music, or books because those discussions can end up being performative.

Most of my CD collection is from the 80's and 90's and I've never done much to take care of them. Many have spent a decade or more of their life in a car. Most of them spent ten years in my attic that gets very hot and very c

I was bummed to find out the PS5 cannot play CDs. Ended up buying an Onkyo CD player that I like and it wasn't very expensive, but it would be nice to not have another black rectangle in my living room.

Lectures and admonitions won’t change anything. People will move to Graphene and Linux when it’s better for them. Coercion and surveillance problems are pretty far down the list of complaints most people have with their personal devices.

It’s not what the US might do, it’s what they might not do. If Putin decides Poland is propping up Ukraine he might expand the war into Poland because right now it isn’t clear that the US would honor their NATO commitments.

If you haven’t already, read Neil Postman’s Amusing Ourselves to Death and then feel good about disconnecting from the outrage machine. I get the Sunday paper and that’s most of the news (other than weather) that I ever see. The best part
