Linefeed (\n) is a single byte in DOS as well. I think you are talking about carriage return linefeed pair (CRLF or \r\n), These control codes go back to line printers. Linefeed advances the paper one line and carriage return moves the prin

Agentic engineering? That reads to me a little like amateur oncologist. How are you defining engineering ? Can agentic engineers adhere to a similar code of ethics that a professional engineer is sworn to uphold? https://www.nsp

This might be a dumb question, but for a dedicated Linux computer why would Starlabs choose Intel or AMD over an ARM design? For a Windows computer, x64 makes sense because backwards compatibility is a big deal. But a Linux machine doesn&#x

On Windows Notepad++ uses native controls and (IMHO) that alone makes it much more pleasant to use than Zed.

I've been reading more about New Orleans situation this morning and my thinking is changing. It would be nice if we could preserve it, but I didn't really understand how bad the situation is. I don't think it's possible

Most people in the US think everybody should have access to basic healthcare but we haven't been able to make that happen. Something like saving New Orleans probably doesn't stand a chance.

Are you sure the loophole exists? AFAIK, this is the regulation: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/1542/oj/eng I don't see that exemption listed. The other ones are, but not that one.

I wish the EU would tackle standardization of tool batteries. It's so stupid that every brand has their own battery system.

My iPhone 13 Mini is almost 5 years old and well over 1000 charges and the battery health app reports 81% which I believe.

On the page linked to it mentions the two exceptions that exempt iPhone and other flagship phones - long lifespan (80% after 1000 charges) and waterproof (IP67). The other exemption criteria is for specialized (medical) devices and devices

My car has one of those, but I rarely have to acknowledge it because once I put the car into reverse, the display switches to the rear camera. When I put the car back into drive, the normal display comes up and the message has been cleared.

LLMs seem to be great for speeding up the creation of things that aren't all that hard to write in the first place. They don't seem to be helping much with difficult tasks. Text editor? Easy. That used to be a rite of passage. Lot

I’m too much of a cheapskate to carry a balance and pay interest. And it’s my cheapskate tendencies that makes me use the credit card for everything for the benefits.

I agree with some of that, but not with TV. The best TV shows today are as good as or better than TV has ever been and there's usually an ad-free option. Televised sports is an exception- the number of ads is insane and there's no

Yes we were. Looking at the chart for TFC, the wind and solar case looks even worse. Wind and solar supplies 2 million TJ compared to 36 million for coal. All I was really trying to say from the outset is that I'm surprised at how impo

That chart is measuring joules of energy. I'm not sure efficiency comes into play here, does it? Coal provides 175,000,000 TJ of energy. Solar and wind provide 21,000,000 TJ. I was mostly surprised at how critical coal still is. htt
