You may be covering it with your second definition, but I'm not sure - there's also the option available in Ireland (and UK and elsewhere) of a wet heat pump. By that, I mean an air-source (or ground heat extracting) heat pump tha

Anecdotes are not data and all that. The dishwasher in my house is a NEFF, and it has a salt compartment. Came with the house, built-in unit. So yes, some Irish houses have dishwashers with salt - sample size 1.

A slow cooker is not a pressure cooker. Slow cookers don't have pressure seals, unless you buy one of the hybrid ones (InstantPot being one example brand) that do both functions. With a slow cooker, you don't leave the hob on for

It's a nice project - I use it at home for a very simple setup to see what my house power consumption is; shows how I can go from 5-6 kWh per day to > 9 kWh just by using the oven. Worked out how to run the emoncms aspect in a LXC c

I don't know about good, but there's modarchive.org. Pretty large and you can listen in the browser to see if you like it. I'd also say archive.org probably has some.

The pain point here is something like .home.arpa, which is nominally the recommended domain to use for home networks (not .local to avoid conflicts with mDNS IIRC). There's still no good solution if you're using a domain that

Anecdotally, I’ve been a sysadmin for 20 years, been around computers since I was a toddler (apparently slept on top of a Data General something-or-other as a baby..). I have the skills to learn how to do dnsmasq-based blocking from scratch

There are ATMs in Europe that will take the card, ask for what you want to do, ask the amount if it’s a withdrawal, and then ask for the PIN and dispense it. This reduces the time between typing and dispensing. No idea if it’s a significant

It's a bit of a snark, but we have floating homes - they're called boats. Admittedly, they don't have sweet curved glass, panoramic views, multiple stories, and a smart watch. Reading up on these folks, it seems like the prin

In Ireland it funds RTE TV/radio. I don't consume the television and radio media that RTE produces, and thus consider the fee a grab for money they're not owed. https://www.rte.ie/news/2022/0711/

I suppose technically a panel with HDMI input counts anyway these days, because external receivers put out HDMI, but I don’t know if the prosecution of the law has caught up to that.

The law basically says a panel with the capacity to receive a TV signal via integrated receiver is a TV. That means you owe a fee for the privilege of owning such a device. Simply removing the receiver circuit is not valid, since it can be

What I really want is a dumb panel with no TV receiver; this makes it a monitor, and not subject to Ireland’s TV licensing law. There are commercial panels, but the power draw on the ones I’ve seen is higher than a regular 40 inch TV. Plus,
