It’s sad to see how many people have such a shallow, incorrect opinion of an organization doing an immense amount of good in the world.

Yeah, this is very true. I spent 4 years working on, AFAICT, the most widely translated site on the internet, https://www.jw.org . It’s currently at 994 languages. Handling RTL and sign languages is an especially large undertakin

This is a much better choice. Before proposing to my wife, I used Etsy to have a ring custom made out of platinum and set with an 8mm moissanite. It’s beautiful and was a tiny fraction the price of what a similar looking diamond would have

Unless you can with certainty predict the future, this argument is logically inconsistent. Having the child will possibly result in death to one or both of the mother and child. However, it is also possibly that they’ll both live. Having an

From a purely theoretical standpoint, I’m terribly curious what would happen if we incentivized spending like that. I’m sure it’d be terrible in the long run, but it’d also have definite macroeconomic stimulus effects.

You can also brew install with the Github URL of a formula at a specific version. That simplifies the process somewhat, but yeah, it should be much much easier than this.

Honestly curious: how would you use HTTP{2,3} to push a real-time message from server to client without a WebSocket? Are we back to just long polling?

Fortunately, some car companies are seeing the light of physical control. For example, Honda had mainly touch-only controls on the last generation Accord, but then added a bunch of physical buttons back for the 2018 model.

That’s providing that the login page you enter your credentials in actually is Google/Facebook. The app can easily open a login page which looks identical, but actually submits your credentials somewhere nefarious.

Blueprint.js is decent for desktop-like web apps. If you need to support mobile, then it requires a bit extra work.

Django’s channels project actually gets pretty close to this. It’s not flawless, but it makes it fairly simple to support websockets, etc.

I’ve been using the encrypted git feature to backup dot files and other bits of system config. At work, my dev team uses the FS and chat features for sharing sending sensitive files we don’t want sitting around on email, google drive, etc.

I don’t think that’s likely or desirable. VPCs and the ability to make a service that’s not in the public internet are hugely valuable from a security standpoint. And Ansible, Terraform, etc are great for automation and managing configurati

I’m sure electric bikes would be great for commuting, but so much of the joy of owning a bike comes from the mechanical aspects of maintaining it and bonding with it over time—I’m not sure an electric bike would ever be more than a laptop i

Will having logical replication make doing a DB version upgrade in production easier? We're using Postgres 9.4 on RDS right now, and there doesn't seem to be an upgrade path that doesn't involve some downtime.
