Actually, string.Substring(0, n) is also the C# idiom. The orignial blogger is essentially creating a method alias Left(n) => Substring(0, n), which IMO is not a good use for extension methods.

I agree that this article is silly, but your tone is a bit condescending. I use a Moleskine notepad because it has a certain tactile solidity that I haven't found in cheaper notebooks. Maybe that particular quality of a notebook is not impo

He also seems to be stuck in the past on a few features. For example: [On Ubuntu] First off, immediately, before anything: the rotating desktop. Damn, that is totally cool. You click an icon in the screen’s lower right, and the desktop rot

But wouldn't you have to feed omelets to the hen's mother also? Otherwise the hen couldn't have been born. And the hen's mother's mother, and mother's mother's mother, and so on, leading back from the final egg. edit: on second thought, thi

In a startup, you choose to work on what you want, how you want. This depends on what kind of startup and also what stage it's in. In our case, my partner and I are still in the mode of trying to break away from consulting work to develop

Right now we're all communicating across a tiny rock in the middle of nowhere. Yet we have the rational means (linguistic, mathematic, scientific) to ponder the depth and extent of our own existence. Maybe the ability to "ponder the depth

My OS X screenshots with both cmd-shift-3 and cmd-shift-4 have always defaulted to PNG out of the box. I've been on board since Tiger and on two different machines.

There is a pretty glaring XSS vulnerability, though. I have informed them about it.

It's really a matter of taste—i.e. whether you prefer typographic purity or optimization for screen. The Safari fonts look better to me even in your comparison screenshots.

Saying that you're glad someone is dead is a lot different from simply refusing to eulogize him. The former carries a certain amount of malice that's not there in the latter.

One less fevered ego tainting our collective unconscious. Good. This is really a pretty despicable attitude no matter where you're from. It's good that a person died because his ego won't trouble you any more? Are you serious? I saw some

This is pretty neat. A few feature suggestions: 1) Constrain aspect ratio on resize when holding down a control key. 2) I really like the way it guesses that you're trying to draw a circle when your freehand is sufficiently curved. A neat a

I for one am relieved that they removed the macron from the 'o'. Why in the world would you go out of your way to put a diacritic there if you don't even follow its pronunciation rule?

We're using it to power one of our demo servers, and it is very fast--definitely on par with mongrel and fastcgi. Stable too. We're not getting anything near production loads on that server, though.

Don't you forfeit too much control this way? For example, the load on your servers would be determined by the caching behaviors of all the various DNS servers and clients out there. I think this scheme should only be used as a front line th

I've always thought that the "Back to the Future" style of time travel would be a direct violation of the first law of thermodynamics. Let's say that you invent a time machine and go back to time (t) in the past. Now, if someone at time (t
