I'm a web developer in London, who's moderately involved in hiring. Most advice you'll get is subjective, but here's my two pence. A 2 page CV is the norm, though you won't get dinged for a page either way - especia

I've been using Phabricator a lot recently, and it's ace. We started using it because we wanted to start doing code review, and the task tracking came along 'for free'. It's nice & lightweight (in terms of UI),

I don't know for sure, but I expect it's a standard thing from any spidering. Let's say you start at one page and find 10 links; your tracker will then have 10 items. If each of those pages has 10 links, then you can then have up to 100 ite

Sometimes, you don't have to tell anyone their idea sucks. You can make them reach that conclusion themselves by asking the right questions - or you'll realise it's not so sucky after all. "Hmm. How is your idea different from X?" (Instead

I've encountered this clause in a few employment contracts. It seems to be becoming standard language, but you don't have to agree to it. A contract's a starting point for negotiation, not something set in stone. If you don't want your side

I once interviewed for a lead webdev role at a small startup. They had 10-12 people, and a product that was doing OK. (I was thoroughly unconvinced by it, but that's another story). One of the things they talked about was their upcoming pla

I think you want two services here; Instapaper for the offline reading part, Pinboard for the archive part. I use Instapaper for the 'read later/offline' stuff, as a) it works on the web, iPad, iPhone, & Kindle and b) it's great at sync

Sure. My point is it's not a question of Mobi vs. PDF vs. ePub, and probably not Kindle vs. PC vs. tablet. Some of the suck is due to sloppy publishers, but a lot of it is down to the screen size. Getting code onto a 7" monochrome screen so

I've attempted to read technical PDFs on my Kindle. You either need a magnifying glass (if you try to do it a page at a time) or spend the whole time scrolling. Maybe scrolling isn't a big deal on a Kindle Touch, but it's not fun on a stand

I don't think any end users will want them, and I don't think they're going to convert very well. But I don't think it would feel obtrusive if properly separated (eg. as an email footer or header). This should be easy to test: create a new

I'm a Linux user. I have a laptop that's my main machine and a fileserver for storage. I try not to keep anything on the laptop, but have my programming projects & config files on it (so I can work if I'm away from home). The fileserver
