You'd probably still want a centralized repo of checksums, otherwise it may be more difficult to verify the authenticity of the packages

Does that not feel terrible? Superglue feels like the tactile equivalent of nails-on-a-chalkboard to me. Though I suppose it's better than exposure to BPA

The problem still exists. It's less so specific to floating point numbers and more so a product of the limited number of states any data type can hold. Integers and floating point numbers are both still 64 bit on most modern computer

Except after you've used the older machine for long enough, it would have been less wasteful to crush it in the beginning and replace it earlier, skipping all the consumption later on.

Sorting is O(n log(n)) but you still have to make a second pass at the end to remove duplicates, making it O(n), isn't it?

If you have a stray comma in your multi-TB CSV file, you probably don't _want_ it to keep going. You risk misinterpreting the mistake and having a grossly malformed output... There's no way to reliably and elegantly recover from s

Unless you want to log out and into another mac account just to change profiles, this really isn't useful. The utility comes from having multiple sandboxed, separate profiles running at the same time with separate cookie jars, in separ

I think the ACH money wiring system already only works during business hours. Which is frustrating to no end. Servers need not sleep.

I don't think schools used to be more selective... It seems more like the selectivity shifted from being self-selective (only highly apt/able people would apply) to selectivity on the part of the universities themselves. My father

Great news! There's been a bit of a space-race between universities the past few years. At the Aerospace club at Northeastern University we've spoken with people from MIT and UVM who are also making spaceshot rockets. We've b

Presumably it would be set up before-hand? If you preferred the other email, you might deprecate the gmail account and set up an auto-reply for all traffic to update contact information. It would require giving up gmail early. The question

Going much smaller than we have right now, and you run up against some exotic issues--if you decrease the dielectric thickness, you run the risk of break down between the gate and source/drain under normal operating conditions. Your st

I've heard that having shared libraries like glibc allows for commonly shared hotpaths to remain in the CPU cache, making it faster. Whereas in musl, since the binaries all have their own copies of procedures, they are more often kicke

The whole point of a pdf is to display _exactly_ the same across all devices. For something like a scientific research paper, you want all figures, etc., to remain in the same place to avoid formatting oddities.

That's a backwards interpretation of demand. Buying a good has the effect of increasing scarcity and thus increasing price. You could just... decide not be in the market, despite being able to afford it. Market price is defined by what

I think this is originally to avoid any possible plagiarism claims by Unix--if a Unix tool was originally optimized for one of size/efficiency/speed/memory use, the GNU tools were optimized for one of the others. This is part

I think realistically, the refinery wouldn't have a reason to release the information that they saw a red flag. The stock wouldn't be affected, there'd just be an internal scramble/panic attack.
