Maybe it's just chance that two meta-HN posts (Top HN ...) show up on the front page today, but it seems like a lot all of a sudden...

These look great! Thanks for sharing. One thing - I know the intent is that they can be easily customized, but it might be nice to have smaller options out of the box. I think I've been spoiled by Twitter Bootstrap, though, where they have

Fair point, I guess I was reacting to the depth in which the article went into the issue. This sort of detail would definitely make a difference, I just feel it's more subtle and less noticeable than perhaps the author indicates it is.

As someone who generally pays attention to the usability of applications, I have to ask: Is this really a big deal? I quite literally have never noticed this when using my iPhone over the past couple years. I actually had to re-read the art

I just finished reading "In the Plex", about Google, where the author pretty frequently refers to Sergey and Larry consciously making decisions early on not to get "Tesla'd". Seems that Tesla's legacy of being an unsung genius (presumably f

I guess I always imagined it was something like: Pilot(s) - *Doing pilot pre-flight things* Gate Agent - "Alright, gate's closed, you're all clear!" Ground Crew - "Alright, baggage is done, you're all clear!" Pilot(s) - *Do

The pilot, who’s been apprised of these developments, must now make the crucial call of whether to wait for the errant valises and risk a late departure I'm actually surprised that it comes down to the pilot's call - you'd think that thei

Wow, looks very impressive. Thanks! I may actually just start with that. From what I can tell, you get a much much larger database than Heroku, but with a lower bandwidth cap (although 50GB vs 2TB for my purposes is indistinguishable). AppF

As someone just getting into Node.js development, I had been looking into a good (free, for now) PaaS for a hobby project. I had settled on Heroku, and I like it so far for its simplicity. However, reading this was the first time I had cons

About taxi meters: from my experience, the mileage may be fixed, but it always seems that the cab driver is able to press something/manipulate the box somehow when they need to add additional fees (in Boston, specifically, in fact). For i

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of formality and over-commenting that I meant by "I feel like there are some people who go overboard on the formalities of commenting (specific format, etc.)". I saw a lot of examples of that at my old employer

I feel like there are some people who go overboard on the formalities of commenting (specific format, etc.), but in general I can't think of one instance where I've thought "man, I wish I (or someone else) hadn't spent time explaining what

I think it's one thing to be passionate, and another to tell people that work for you that their work is "shit". It might be one thing to say that to a good friend of yours, but if you constantly tell your employees that, they're just going

I'll agree with everyone on the design - it's beautiful, and I really love the mascot. I just wanted to add that the video really helped clear things up for me on how it integrates with other services. It might just be me, but I didn't imme

The only reason it worked for Steve Jobs is that he was Steve Jobs. Almost every other person with that attitude would be, and arguably should be, fired (or at least talked to seriously about it). Someone like that would be extremely detrim

It looks great - very nicely designed, and I immediately understand the benefit. However, that landing page could do a better job having a call to action visible right away. I don't see anything until I scroll to the very bottom, and even t
