Can you help me understand your comment with a simple example? Take slice::split_at and slice::split_at_mut: fn split_at(&self, mid: usize) -> (&[T], &[T]) fn split_at_mut(&mut self, mid: usize) -> (&mut

I think GP is talking about somehow being able to, for example, more seamlessly switch between manual borrowing and "checked" borrowing with Rc and RefCell.

I agree that there usually needs to be some level of OS consistency - using system file dialogs, keyboard shortcuts, etc. - but I don't think it extends to aesthetics.

If I'm using Excel or Spotify or just about any application, I would much rather it look the same across operating systems, than try to match each operating system.

I can second the sibling comment - it works well for me with pipewire-jack. Might be obvious to you, but the Arch Wiki page on PipeWire is useful. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PipeWire

Is there a good generic job runner? Edit: Sorry, it looks like I totally misunderstood what you meant by "job runner".

The people commenting under the Mr. Beast post are probably different to the people commenting under this post. Anyway, Mr. Beast doesn't really pretend to be more than what he is afaik. In contrast, the Rationalist tendency to use mat

Hi OP. I don't know if you'll see this, but the 300 weight text is hard to read on a regular (96ppi) screen. If you're interested, you can use the `resolution` CSS media query to increase the font weight on just low-density d

Did Ilhan Omar actually say "the US is one of the worst countries"? The only quote I'm finding[0] is one in which she says it's turning into one of the worst countries. In the same sentence she calls the US a "bea

I'm tired of hearing "you have the freedom to [x]", when it's always accompanied by "but if you do exercise that freedom, you will be treated as a second-class citizen".

And the transfer size for that level of detail isn't that bad, either - only around 80MB. (Not being sarcastic, it's really neat.)

How can you use element() to "capture an image of the layer below" and pass it to a canvas? I might be wrong, but without more context, that sounds like it'd defeat browser protections to avoid leaking your browser history vi

I think calcPathPoints can be made more efficient by calculating the slerp only once (for t = 1/segments), and then maintaining stepQuat like: // before the loop let stepQuat = new THREE.Quaternion(); /

True, and there are plenty of other reasons Chebyshev polynomials are convenient, too. But I guess what I was asking was: is there some kind of abstract argument why the semicircle distribution would be appropriate in this context? For ex

It's just hard for me to imagine someone accidentally messing up nonnullness or aliasing, because it's really in-your-face that you need to be careful when constructing a reference unsafely. There are even idiomatic methods like p

No it's not. I'm saying don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. DoH does solve a problem for many people. Many large ISPs will sell your DNS requests, use them for targeted advertising, tamper with responses for var

The author seems to mostly be talking about the aliasing rules, but if you don't want to deal with those, can't you use UnsafeCell? Imo, the more annoying part is dealing with exception safety. You need to ensure that your data st

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is there a direct link between the choice of weight function and the applications of the polynomial? Like, is it possible to infer that Chebyshev polynomials would be useful in approximation theory us

The points here aren't technically wrong, but it still feels like disabling DoH would be a reduction in security. For example: > Cloudflare gets all your DNS queries. That's true, but Cloudflare is more trustworthy than my IS

I personally can't see this example working out. I'll always want to get some kind of confirmation of which files will be deleted, and at that point, just typing the command out is much easier than reading.
