What stresses do you have in mind? (I'm a third-year right now and I've had nothing to stress about and nothing to do. I just read HN and developer blogs all day. I'd definitely hesitate to say I'm an adult.)

Many distributions (Ubuntu, etc.) treat GTK as the platform's native GUI toolkit, at least in terms of customization and accessibility features. And, from what I've read on @raphlinus' blog, one of the goals is to integrate w

Yeah, I guess I overreacted to the verbosity — it's definitely a huge improvement over the current state of Java. But is there a reason not to add NonNull annotations to the fields of type Expr?

Sure, type inference isn't always better, but it's usually clearer — I almost always already know the type of the thing, so explicit types are just noise — and languages with inference still let you write let me: Person

That's the same as tying the consequences a person faces for a crime to their wealth (given how predictable the severity of these "2nd order consequences" are!) and that is, to me, terribly unjust.

Well no, the punishment should fit the crime. It's just that punishing a poor person by taking $1000 could kill them, and punishing a rich person by taking $1000 is barely even a punishment.

In the vaguest sense, sure. But if a file is a list of lines, this "ambiguous file" is a digraph of lines. If a file is instead a tree of strings, what does an "ambiguous file" look like? See this paper which was the sou

You say Pijul's pushouts are unrelated, but their construction depends on a very line-centric definition of patches. Wouldn't it need to be made more complex to accomodate tree patches?

The unit of change in Pijul is also a file, which is a finite sequence of lines, generalized to a finite directed graph of lines to deal with conflicts. The idea of a patch-based VCS is as old as the idea of a VCS. Pijul's theory of

You can find an explanation of how it works at [0]. The vague notion of "patch commutation" is central to both operational CRDTs and Pijul's theory of patches, but other than that, I don't really see any similarities. [0

I understand that conflicts are inevitable, but wouldn't tree-diffing at least be an improvement over line-diffing? I recall that Pijul's theory of generalized files (arbitrary digraphs of lines IIRC) is already fairly complicated

Why should CPython have a JIT? A good JIT is hard to write, and harder to retrofit. It usually increases startup times, attack surface, and code complexity. Besides, Python already has a handful of JIT-based implementations, and I don'
