As I understand it, those 4 still think there are 5 nodes in the set (just that one is down) so you can still establish majority voting because the set size is 5.

"Basically we felt that we wanted to prove you don’t have to charge $600 to deliver a phone that has the latest-generation technologies." That's disingenuous. Without LTE this phone does not have the latest generation technologies. I think

Maybe I'm just naive but it seems that if the TSA were significantly more transparent about how they deploy new screening procedures, US travelers would hate them a little less. Why not just say safety testing results were inconclusive and

I disagree. Given what the app is about, I don't care about the UI. In fact, I'd rather they spend more time on the backend than on the website - at least to get started. Bootstrap is familiar, it's not bad - there's a difference. Once the

You're totally right by the way. My initial reaction was so annoyed that the whole thing even happened the way that it did. It's not like I know the guy but you listen to enough podcasts and read enough blog posts that you feel like you sor

Marco should definitely have known better and not involved his paying customers in a squabble between himself and a publisher (who in turn didn't have a problem with the service itself). I'm glad he admitted fault and has corrected the issu

Good point, I should have been more specific and not say "personal hygiene" across the board. My problem is when people cut their nails in the office let them fly all over the place without cleaning them up. That's the image that came to mi

Good god that's a serious nay. Do that in your own home not at the office (unless you have a private office where I can't see it). Personal hygiene should be taken care of before coming to work.

I'm not trolling you when I ask this, I'm simply curious. Of the open source projects you follow, how many still do builds for Solaris? How often do you have to build them yourself?

What's the overlap of users who (a) have trouble with login forms and (b) leave their email open all the time (whether browser or dedicated app)? This relies on a very high level of comfort with email and context switching. This could poten

I'm wondering (aloud, I suppose) if it would make sense to support keyboard navigation. From a lazy perspective it would be nice not to have to mouse to each popover and hit "next" but then you might lose the "tour" feeling with people just

You put a lot of work into this article and wrote quite a few great tips when looking for a place to live in SF. Unfortunately you undermined the entire post with your "immigrants" comment. In fact you made yourself look like a huge bigot.

People conveniently forget that multiple flops also happened on Jobs' watch. For all the talk of his ability to say "no", maintain focus and never sacrifice UX they still produced the G4 Cube and iTunes Ping, among others.

Interesting perspective but I have to say there are quite a few companies working the whole "open source the code, charge for consulting, etc." thing. Just in data alone, Cloudera, Data Stax, Basho, 10gen and Hortonworks come to mind. My po

The best part? There's no one "right way", each one has it own ups and downs. Too few authors do this these days and think they have all the answers to everyone's problems.

I guess the key here is, are you storing files or are you mirroring files? It would seem that the best possible solution is to run your own file storage service, but who has the time/desire to manage that? For a free product like Dropbox, I
