Your analysis is correct, your machine has to trust the Tailscale auth server. I think that this is compatible with the technical definition and spirit of Zero Trust. To elaborate: In the typical web-only BeyondCorp scenario, a network is Z

Install the software on each machine you want in the network, servers and clients. Any machine in your network can connect to any other machine when it wants to send a packet. The protocol is pure wireguard, but it's a little tricky to

Funnily enough this one isn't built on TCP. This overlay network uses WireGuard which moves packets over UDP. I guess Avery has had enough TCP for a while. :) (Tailscale cofounder here.)

We have been using this since it was announced for our main repository. (The author of git-subtrac is my cofounder.) It is a definite improvement on storing submodules in separate repositories, where one of us would forget to push a commit

Great to see the JVM experimenting with low-pause GC. It looks like the maximum pauses of Shenandoah are still well over 1ms, which will still cause a lot of tail latency in services. (Go reached ~5ms max pauses a few releases ago, but ther

I find the fastest way to introduce bugs into programs is to compile programs differently in development than in production. It also warps developer's perspectives of how their program performs. As they say at NASA, "Test what you

There is a city playground 3 minutes walk from my apartment with a sandpit, swings, and climbing structures. Almost always, there is another kid there for mine to play with. We go every day it is warm enough. This is not unusual in Manhatta

It is nice to see people working on making software smaller! It leaves me wondering though, what is Kubernetes doing with all of these resources? When I saw "lightweight" in the title I expected 5.12MB of RAM, not 512MB.

Trigram is defined in the dictionary as "a group of three consecutive written units such as letters, syllables, or words." Thus using the term for a triplet of tokens seems appropriate.

There is indeed some work on memory tagging happening on ARM, including a new hardware extension. This (excellent) talk covers it: https://cppcon2018.sched.com/event/FnJs/memory-tagging-and-h... So it is not impos

I should have qualified my post with the assumption that such a compiler could be written. I don't know if it could. I suspect, if a compiler was focused on one specific micro-architecture rather than a general ISA, that it could.

It would be wonderful to simplify CPUs and ship this work off to the compiler. The two difficulties I see are: Firstly, every microarchitecture will have a different optimal schedule. This means a significant shift in how binaries are deplo

Also: UTF-8 instead of UTF-16 can make a surprising difference on memory use, especially if you interact with services in UTF-8 and so spend a lot of memory in Java copying back and forth.
