Seems like a compendium of devices and processes that violate the laws of thermodynamics. "Converting water to fuel" isn't hard, doing it without a source of energy seems not only hard but, um, "imaginative".

Fair enough. I have dealings with Gen(xyzqbvwhatever) that don't respond to the 'more considerate forms' in a timely fashion. So after a grace period, I jangle the bell. I get the other side of this. I get a ping for a mess

I do not see a link on the page for the creator of this. If they are about I have some thoughts about this. (over and above "why have you allowed me to waste so much time on this" --- wry grin)

Seems backward: carry-on capacity is a scarce resource. Allow charges for that. There's value in that you 'just walk out of the airport', vs wait (and, maybe wait and wait, and wait, at the carousel). But ban checked bagga

I suppose I didn't start the debate properly, in the direction I was attempting. I was looking for discussion not of "ok, don't call in sick three days a week during notice", but how to deal with the second level effects

So the response from the host of the column is "don't do that, that's abusing the benefit". I get that. I do think there are a lot of other issues though... in some environments, for some people, sick days are another fo

I will willingly risk karma hazard by suggesting this isn't about "bugs leaking into later phases" but about "corporate culture allowing endless nitpicking". (Which I reckon is what my parent comment is saying too!.

Yes, I think... I'd like to be in a place of "I can pick it up" .. ok, so "I can manage to lift it"!, so no more than about 25kg/60lb. This keeps the output to about 2kW, which I think is ok (I have no experie

I think you are correct. In this case, though, the excess heat is a major burden, so there is room to negotiate with a district thermal provider that pays that provider to absorb and redistribute the heat, as long as it's less than the

To me, 'disable abovegound regen' feels like not likely to solve the problem, just from a feeling that those systems are not that closely coupled. Otherwise, it seems easy to just keep on doing regen and set up (maybe not even ne

Hmm. I remember reading decades ago (before injection became the norm) a book on "maintaining your British car". Lots of tongue-in-cheek, the author didn't have a high opinion of them but it had a lot of useful advice on mai

The technical work is lovely. I would have liked to have seen (though I respect that it might be personal or PII) a working out of the accounting, specifically about the amortized cost of batteries vs just eating PG&E costs and treatin

This is true but it's 'truer' for some institutions than others. I deal with two banks, and the quality of the websites and services are way different. Fortunately the better one is the one with the majority of my business.

Agree with comments below, am observing that the British (commonwealth etc) plug standard is a good common denominator (and a perfect calthrop. grin!). Living in North America where the 110 V is standard... the GBR plug/socket is a lo

Maybe. What I was trying to get at was, some banks (the 'orange one') don't provide sane semantics, so even if the input format is compatible, reconciliation can be a nightmare. You may not be dealing with your 'orange

Fair enough. I guess the original post doesn't give that amount of background. You're discussing the hard details about managing a farm of generators, the original article suggests something more like generator hoarding.

Exactly. When this first came down, many Canadians (including me, true confessions) had their petty quibbles at the till about rounding (ok the rounding was sometimes wonky, hence the petty quibbles). Most of us have got over it.
