The problem with developers is they have no idea what is ugly or not. That's why they wear so many geeky and trade polo shirts! Typescript is not ugly at all, and the majority of web application developers in my office liked the look of it.

Shows how pointless TIOBE is. C++ is still light years ahead of Objective-C use in the field.

Most developers still think language and framework is important. Mostly it isn't. Jeff just has a higher soapbox. Use Java, PHP, .NET, RoR, Python, it doesn't really matter.

No. There was some FUD that because they didn't do things like rewriting Office in C# they weren't committed. Because rewriting 100 million lines of C++ just to prove a point would be such a good investment in time.

The long held philosophy is that men are problem solvers, and when someone comes to them with an issue they want to solve it. Often what people really want is just for you to listen. So when your wife says "I hate this tap", she doesn't act

I'm pretty sure most people leave high school and if you asked them 12 months later about gravity they couldn't give any kind of coherent answer, just something along the lines of "it stops us floating off into space". Just like all people

Getting the vast majority of sites working in IE9 is trivial (no changes required). IE8 some changes, but not a major hassle. I don't support IE7 or before. If you use a lot of HTML5 features it is hit or miss on all browsers.

Spot on. Piracy is not because people are not willing to pay, it is because it is the only option to get content without waiting months after it's US release. When is Game of Thrones on Aussie TV? I would pay $5 to download each episode leg

The lesson is that you need to make sure you have a market before wasting time building a product. Most tech guys get this the wrong way around (but don't really care cause they like building stuff).
