This is literally how docker works as well. The difference is docker doesn't bring a toolchain for those artifacts.

And the consensus seems to be nix is not straight forward?

Docker doesn't give you the tooling to build a package and opts for you to bring the toolchain of your choice. Docker executes your toolchain, and does not prescribe one to you except for how it is executed. Nix is the toolchain, whi

Steps in a stage are hierarchical. The final result need not be. You can build a bunch of things then merge the results in a final stage without any hierarchy (this is "COPY --link" in a Dockerfile).

It is likely just as rare for someone to use nix for this, though.

Don't conflate using "apt-get" in a Dockerfile with what "docker build" does.

Have you analyzed the data from your cpap to see if it's doing what it needs to do? It has the data for your apnea events, sleep time, all kinds of interesting things. Check for leaks. Make sure your mask is actually comfortable, I

Celiac is a specific condition, not even an allergy. If someone has celiac, they cannot have gluten without bad consequences. Being able to serve someone with celiac means the kitchen has deliberately chosen to do so and have procedures i

Completely disagree. For the restaurant in question it is a major national chain, so indeed it is harder for the server to have this knowledge on every dish, but at least a book of allergens... really the company should have this available

I am so sorry. I was a server... 20 years ago holy crap... I've been that server. They asked if something was safe for celiac. I had no idea, nobody else did either. Today, my partner is a severe celiac. Any traces of gluten takes them

The saying is not "I don't know anything that I don't know", which would be self contradictory. It disproves nothing. ChatGPT "knows" that it doesn't know anything after a certain date, for whatever it mea

That is the purpose of go.mod/go.sum. `go mod download` never updates anything unless you change go.mod.

This one was voted down but there is a good point here. There is no way to figure out what binaries there are (maybe you could make `go list` show all the `package main`s?, not sure). Beyond that there's no way to discover what build f

This is not the same thing as Windows. MacOS users choose to have those things in the menu bar. On Windows the notification bar was a dumping ground that you couldn't prevent apps from using.

Moving doesn't tend to change much. Yes housing prices go down but so do wages. Also you'll have the added expense of a car (and all the stress that brings along with it).

That's fine if you don't have any downstreams. Painful when upstreams change this for no functional gain.

The experience really isn't that bad on iPad, except the apps you end up needing to use are kind of lacking... which of course does make it not wonderful. I did this for a couple of weeks with an 11 inch pro while my laptop was being r

Who is "they". You are lumping millions of people into a single group and treating it like there is one opinion. The people who complained about one thing isn't even necessarily the same group complaining about the other.

A lot of the individual tech pieces to make it work have been going into other products for years. Like head tracking in AirPods, face id, Memoji, probably lidar, certainly other things that aren't coming to me right now. A lot of thin
