I mean, that's exactly what you are doing with every single dependency you take on regardless of language.

If by "utility" container you mean the containers aren't managed under the same stack, that is true. Buildkit, at least prior to docker 29, executes runc directly. It is still using the same storage backend, though there is a

Just an fyi to anyone making or thinking of making one of these: Turning a knob with a mouse is the worst interface I can think of. I don't know why audio apps/DAWs fall so hard on skeuomorphism here when the interface just doesn&

Buildkit is integrated into dockerd the same way the old builder was. If you want a newer Buildkit you'll need to run it separately of course. I'm not quite sure I understand what you are trying to do with nfs there. But you can d

Buildkit didn't break anything here except that it each individual build step is no longer exposed as a runnable image in docker. That was unfortunate, but you can actually have buildkit run a command in that filesystem these days, and

And I am immensely unhappy with my 4K@32. 4K@27 is more tolerable... really miss the 5K@27 I had (other than it was a "smart" monitor which annoyed the hell out of me).

You are right, I should not have said "you can't independently verify anything", but then you generally need to know what you are looking for.

Right, my point was that nobody bothered to check the source tarballs which should be completely reproducible already,

They were completely preventable by independent verification. Just that without reproducible build you can't independently verify anything.

Distributing software is a lot harder than just building it (with the caveat that people don't want to install build dependencies). So we rely on centralized distribution (and build). Because of this we have to assume trust of that ent

Docker on Mac runs containers in a VM, but the VM is native the cpu architecture and takes advantage of hardware virtualization. You can of course always use qemu inside that vm to run non-native code (eg x86 on Apple Silicon), however this

BTW, undrstandable to not have an example on the spot. In general we do actually try to provide full context for errors from dockerd. Some things can be cryptic because, frankly, they are cryptic and require digging into what really happene
