I got a PiDP-8 that I hope to one day actually get around to soldering together. Thinking about what could it actually do, once the novelty factor wears off, I thought a "terminal operating system" might be useful for the hand fu

I'm using Manjaro on my laptop and it's been smooth so far, aside from an initial wifi chipset hiccup. I'm using it also on a laptop-as-a-router. Disabled all the graphical stuff. It's been very good, thus far and onl

That's more than my laptop-as-a-router using Manjaro uses in total.

There is a much older text book called the Art of Digital Design. In it, if you buy and solder the necessary components, you get a fully working PDP-8.

In a recent discussion of fzf, I looked through the man page and still didn't know what it was supposed to do. An example might have helped.

I bumped into some of this in the hobby world. I rescued a 1999 Multiprise 3000 from becoming scrap metal. It has no hard drives and it would be extraordinarily expensive to try to populate even the minimum. It could, though, be used usi

I've had tinnitus as long as I can remember. Watching a Bugs Bunny cartoon where Elmer Fudd got hit over the head and he says "somebody answer that phone" or some such, I didn't get the joke so I asked my dad. He told

You can disable the trackpad in the BIOS? A whole new, better world has opened up to me! I hate trackpads.

My only experience with Rexx was on OS/2 trying to get my Multiprise 3000 up and running. I was very pleased that it was a plain text scripting language as the installer kept being annoying about software versions and I could just man

From what I've read from others a PDP-8 or maybe a PDP-11 is about the limit. They got a 12-bit computer with 32 KiW to be a time sharing system for 17 users with TSS-8. So they were still quite capable.

Could someone, in brief, tell me what fzf actually is. The man page is uninformative.

Given that he is THE Ken Thompson, I'd argue that he was, in fact, the UNIX system resource.

I really enjoyed TIS-100. There's a little story revealed about your uncle through it which was a nice touch.

My favorite thing on Yahoo finance is how the headline for the day is re-written throughout the day to keep it current, frequently becoming the opposite of what it was in the beginning of the day.

I've had tinnitus as long as I can remember with the exception of one day: the first time I had my ears cleaned. Earwax compacted to being rock hard was pulled out and I was told that it had probably been building up in my ears for mo

Likely from watching Indiana Jones movies too many times, I'm rather partial to biplanes and loved the AN-2 when I saw pictures of it. Shame they're restricted as to use because of regulations.
