DX codes are a huge pain these days as a lot of new rolls of film, especially B&W don't have them, leading to a frustrating situation on cameras which won't allow you to manually set ISO (which is a huge number of sub-professi

How is that relevant? DX codes aren't about storing arbitrary data or backups, it's a system for providing basic information on the roll of film itself.

I think anyone who’s been in a slaughterhouse would find it difficult to agree with that statement and even so, the sheer scale means that the amount of suffering is unfathomable.

No other animal has the mental capacity that we do, the ability to reason, or ethics like us. We are not like other animals in this regard, we have the option to do better.

HN is not a monolith, many of us have become extremely sceptical of the tech world and “culture” in recent years despite being part of it.

Better yet, get out the leaf blowers at 6AM and wake up everyone . I will say, as someone not from Southern Alberta the way they handle winter out there was almost surreal coming from the east.

I know my own life perfectly fine. You have this belief the entire west is self isolating, which shows where you’re coming from in this argument. Name a tangible effect Brexit had on my life, just one. Not theoretical things like political

It simply didn’t dude, nothing in my life changed in any noticeable way due to Brexit. Claim otherwise as much as you want, but at the end of the day it just didn’t. The street lighting bill going up though? That was noticeable come propert

Brexit had zero impact on me that I know of and even if it did, there is literally nothing I could do about it given I’m not a UK citizen. Likewise, I don’t don’t recall being asked to vote on the war in Ukraine. I have to focus on this I c

Selfish? Maybe, but my mental health matters far more to me. I’m not looking for approval or saying what I do is right, I am merely answering the question.

Absolutely not, it’s dangerous to my mental health in a way few other things are. People will call me selfish for not being engaged, but the cost of engagement is too high for me. If I hear news it’s a five minute hourly update on Radio 1
