My favorite "remote debugging" of all time was the caller who complained about the key in her old Subaru wagon not working sometimes. After some back and forth, one of the brothers said, "wait, wait--I'll bet you have a

Seems like a lot of wishful thinking and projection of current ideology, a la Margaret Mead in "Coming of Age in Samoa" of which she later admitted she fabricated much.

Well, having a single wide monitor means I move my neck very little from side to side (maybe 15 degrees each side?). Even my old (60) eyes have no trouble viewing the edges.

I've been using the LG 34UM95 for a month or so attached to a rMBP, and find the ultra-wide screen (3440) delightful. The 1440 height is the same as the current Apple T'bolt Cinema Display. I really don't need Retina-level re

You mean Photoshop, not Illustrator, improved? The latter was Adobe's first app and lovingly crafted by Warnock and crew. (I know, because I saw them with my own eyes. ;-)

Hey, that's my old boss at Imagen, Luis! He was one of Knuth's fair-haired boys. (Hails from Argentina.) Luis and Les Earnest spun off Imagen as a start-up from the TeX project at Stanford around 1980, and I joined them soon after

Isn't anyone else bothered by the lousy typography of both the logo (<apple>WATCH) and the typography on the screen? The fonts are too loosely spaced, and the screen layouts looked amateurish, no better than the Android-based wea

Others have commented similarly, but I just have to say that we've tried various Dysons over the years, and they always start off brilliantly. E.g., we vacuumed a nominally clean bedroom with a new Dyson upright and it was like steam-c

It's the evil twin of capitalism, crony capitalism, which is what we have in this country. (Technically, it should be called fascism, since it's the binding together (fasces) of government and business in an unholy union.)

This is all quite interesting. I wonder if there are others in my boat, however, who were (in my case minor) iOS developers, and were initially excited by Swift. (I chatted with Chris Lattner at WWDC and thanked him for what looked in the f

Yes, but don't forget the microcode level that runs the Lisp code. Some very small bits of the OS were written in microcode (as few as possible), IIRC. (It's been a long time since I was hanging around the AI Lab. ;-)
