Not an apologist for unit tests, but I'll bite here: unit tests are still valuable when you have the capacity to run ful integration tests. A unit test can run really fast, for one, it can cover future use cases that don't get cov

Honestly, I've been remote for 5 years now (September 2012) and it's never been an issue for me. A combination of video calls, a decent chat client, and any work organization tool (something with tickets, assignment, and comments)

I can confirm this is 100% true for my children. So much so that when I can control the number of toys available to them (during quiet time in their rooms, for example) I generally go with a small stack of books and one or two toys (typical

+1 no videos. Gifs yes. Screenshots and text descriptions yes. No videos: A video can't be searched, it can't be scanned, and it can't be watched without headphones on in many settings. I recognize lots of people learn by vid

It wasn't even a joke . But meh, fake internet points don't do it for me. A change in points is how I know to look for responses to my comments.

For what it's worth, when you post a good job on HN you get well upwards of 200 applicants... I'm not with Care Evolution, but I sympathize with them.

My favorite line: "Go is huge in China". My first thought: don't they mean Weiqi!?

Please don't mention "Rem0te" in your posting to explicitly state it's not an option. That's the point of "0NSITE" vs "REM0TE" in your title.

If you would have been in a world of pain, I'd argue you weren't over architecting. You were doing your job just right!

Disclaimer: Not a go apologist, I admire it, but don't use it. With Go you get a compiler error if you don't do something with that error. You have to explicitly decide to ignore it with `_`. As far as I remember that's quit

Buffalo wings are everywhere because of Central New York! It's our single greatest contribution to society ;)

Yessir. Apparently vinegar and chicken is an upstate New York thing, though...Buffalo Wings too!

Didn't even realize Cornell chicken was regional... We've eaten it that way my whole life. I suppose the "Cornell" should have tipped me off.

I've never gotten a job with a resume I didn't taylor for the job in question. Thoughtful tweaking is overwhelmingly the longest part of applying for any job. I've never found the 10 minutes (or so) of filling out the inter

To make this a bit more on-topic for HN: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=45932 The above describes creating a bread-machine "Coretto" roaster. (I still have no idea why it's named that). A

How do you look at a company's code before you get on the job? I've never been in a situation where my company or my company's clients would have been ok with that.

I came here to say more or less this. It's basically modern Evangelical (as opposed to poat-modern) and fundamentalist Christianity that takes issue with Darwin. In the US those are, for better or worse, the loudest voices.
