Not my field, but I'd be surprised if this was an iron issue; the timescales don't match up. I wouldn't be surprised if magnesium was an issue though.

See also "anaemia of chronic disease" -- people with chronic infections or inflammation often end up suffering from what is effectively iron-deficiency anaemia, because their bodies sequester iron to keep it away from pathogens.

My approach: ln(19683) ~ ln(20000) = ln(20) + 3 ln(10) ~ 3 + 3*2.3 = 9.9. 3.3 = 1.0 + 2.3 ~ ln(e) + ln(10). My mental landmarks are ln(2), ln(e), and ln(10), roughly 0.7, 1.0, and 2.3 respectively.

Yes, but the scenario where you're relying on a mechanical clock because it survived an EMP attack is the scenario where you're getting attacked with nuclear weapons . Which... I dunno, the idea of rowing to safety seems a bit i

There's an antiviral drug which is used to treat COVID. It works by causing a specific type of error in viral DNA copying. These errors usually result in the virus dying, but in some cases it could theoretically survive and still spr

Rather to my surprise, I have never received such a request. I don't know if this is because Tarsnap users aren't of interest to the relevant agencies, because they know they wouldn't get anything useful, or because I'm

If stocks go to zero, it's generally easy to get your hands on them, since people holding those shares will want to realize capital losses for tax purposes. Even if the stock is delisted from exchanges, brokerages routinely "buy&

This was Startup News once. Then it got renamed because pg wanted the name to reflect a wider range of interesting topics and not just startups. It was also briefly Innocuous News.

I get regular emails from Tarsnap users thanking me for making it possible for them to recover data which they lost. The work itself isn't all that satisfying, but knowing that it's having a positive impact is very satisfying. In

Interesting that the judge wrote "non-family" and then amended it to "non-parental". Makes me wonder if one or both of the additional sureties (the names of which are sealed) are siblings.

I have the same experience with my Kona EV. Official range 415 km, but in the summer it's actually ~450 km. (Not that I ever run 100%-0% of course, but I get 90 km going from 80% down to 60%.)

All the option parsing is done in functions called by the macros. The "getopt string" isn't needed since the GETOPT_OPT() and GETOPT_OPTARG() "case statements" convey the same information (the set of valid options)
