And the risk for this happening… Do you think it’s a big risk? These days, a lot of kids just engage with their smartphone instead.

If you don’t want to talk to them, why not just say so? “I’m afraid I’m busy, I hope you understand” or “Excuse me, but I would prefer to mind my own business”. They might not love the response, but no sane person would continue the convers

Yes, but it can be an internal CA. There are even FOSS products for that: https://goteleport.com/

Do you really need Wifi 7 though? If not, a two-pack of “Eero 6+” is $154.99. That’s a very good price IMHO. And one needs a quite large home in order to need a three-pack, so I think the two-pack is sufficient for most households.

I guess the problem is that people use automated scanning tools, see CVE:s with high scores and then they go and put pressure on FOSS maintainers about stuff that’s a) not urgent b) doesn’t have a high impact?

Depending on the layout of the home, running network cables can be a major PITA. But it’s not like eero Max 7 is a must have. I would say it’s a nice to have.

Perhaps I should have written bit patterns instead of bit values (:

Consider this (which is correct, unless I managed to include any brainfarts in my reasoning) – in the mapping between Base64 and ASCII, there are no unknown inputs. There’s no XOR or anything like that going on. It’s a pure mapping of byt

One can indeed argue that it’s not surprising – depending on your prior understanding of how Base64 works . But for a person where both Base64 and LLMs are black boxes, then it can indeed be surprising. To me, the most surprising thing

I’m afraid I don’t follow. Do you mean the pop-up is equivalent to an ad for Hyundai?

Interesting point! However, I rarely see people write “GNU/Linux” these days, at least in the parts of Internet where I hang out. (And there’s quite a lot of FOSS/Linux folks in those parts.)

Alas, many top experts/writers publish quite infrequently. Therefore I personally think that HN/Lobsters/Fediverse is much more convenient than RSS. With that said, I really like these blogs: https://jvns.ca/

In some cases one can just git clone the site, which is really smooth. But for the cases where that’s not possible: Sure, why not? Having a backup copy that you control can be very valuable.

I think it’s the mixing of HTTP and HTTPS that most browsers doesn’t like. If you develop locally and it’s only HTTP with no HTTPS, then I think it works.

My sources for book recommendations are mainly newspapers, magazines, friends, Fediverse and HN. Whenever I want to save a recommendation I just add it to Pinboard, with the tags ‘book’ and ‘wislist’. So when I feel the urge to order new bo

Why not try to spend more time with your kids instead? They need you. Seems like a much better “investment” than grinding Leetcode. And never forget: It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

AFAIK rclone is a sync tool. A backup tool is not the same as a sync tool.

I’m just a layman when it comes to these kind of things. But here’s my take anyway: AFAICT, the issue isn’t so much about rewriting the code. However, if we would use automation for that, we would probably need proofs that the new code is
